I suppose we should file this under a day late and a dollar short but let’s be generous and say “better late than never.” Donald Trump has finally woken up to what has been obvious to the rest of this planet for decades now — but then Donald is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. It takes him a bit longer to process things. Trump is now planning all kinds of tariffs and sanctions against Vladimir Putin and Russia if Putin doesn’t do what Trump asks and within 50 days. Not sure where that figure came out of but that’s the figure given.

Yes, TACO will probably prove once again that he is TACO. Or, quite likely, Putin will show Trump a side of himself that Trump has never seen. We don’t know. We do know things like Putin lost no time in dealing with Iranian officials right after the bunker busting bomb raid and Putin was thanked by them for “being on the right side of history.” We also know that Iran is very anti-Trump right now and we have not gotten the return punch for Trump’s little escapade. We will, though, we will. Iran is predictable in its own way, as is Trump. They’re biding their time and they are not a people that simply forgets.

The substance of what’s being said here is not nearly so important as that it is being said at all. Fox News saying that Trump has been played by Putin? Yes, indeed, that’s not only what you just heard, that is what you are going to hear a lot more of. Never forget, the Murdochs play the long game. They didn’t drink the kool-aide, they just milked the MAGA cow. Those are two very different things. If some likely successor to Trump appears (you remember Ron DeFuture DeSantis, right?) they will dump Trump like the proverbial hot potato.
Fifty days is a new one. There’s something about the oddball number that has my spidey sense going but I can’t put my finger on it. And I do agree that two weeks means never, at least that’s been the case with infrastructure week, the health care plan, the opioid epidemic solution and many other things that we have never seen and will never see. And if you ask Trump he’ll tell you about the “concept” he has for the “plan” that is going to result in the big change — in two weeks.

50 days= 3* 2 weeks with a little extra for leeway?
More seriously, what if, during those phone calls, there is a script agreed between T and P where both come out smelling of roses? Apologies: scrap “agreed” and replace with “dictated by P”?
And, most certainly, 50 days is a long period in the news cycle to help divert from the topic de jour: the Epstein debacle. I think it was Prime Minister MacMillan who cautioned one of his MPs who was congratulating him about how well things were going for the government at the time: “Events, dear boy, events”. And Epstein has so many ticking events still to play out and over which T has no control even, as we have seen, to the point of stoking the fire himself (mindful of Ursula’s article on Trump’s order to MAGA).
The usual smoke, mirrors and bullshit. 50 days my ass. Trump’s walloping all our allies with tariffs (35% to our former best pal, Canada) but nary a one for dear Vladimir’s Russia, not now, not in any 50 days. He’s trying to lift sanctions, not impose them. Donald may know that Putin’s played him over & over, but he sees a kindred soul: that’s just what Donald would do if he had the brains and the balls. He loves Vlad even as he’s being humiliated in public by him. Some president we have.
