Man, this is getting positively Twilight Zone-ish. The Lincoln Project, composed of Republican strategists going against Donald Trump was an amazing enough development, but now former staffers from the George W. Bush administration called “43 Alumni For Biden” have formed a PAC with the intention of raising money to elect Joe Biden and defeat the incumbent Republican president. Wow. Newsweek:

They said they knew Bush well enough not to need him to explicitly say to them he was rejecting Trump’s leadership because of the statement he made with former first lady Laura Bush about their public anguish over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and by Bush’s own veiled rebuke of President Donald Trump’s handling of the protests, when he said the voices of those who are hurting and grieving must be heard. “Those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of America—or how it becomes a better place,” he said. […]

Bush and many of the super PAC’s supporters—which include 162 members on a private Facebook page—have not backed Trump from the start. [former U.S. Treasurer Rosario] Marin, for example, was one of the few who endorsed Clinton in 2016, but others quietly did not support Trump. […]

One member of the group used to be a part of the RNC’s Hispanic Advisory Council supporting Trump in 2016, but left before the election because he disagreed with Trump’s hardline immigration messaging. Texas-based lawyer Jacob Monty—who has donated to Republicans since 1997—held a fundraiser for Biden in February, when the campaign’s prospects were most tenuous. […]

Abel Guerra, who worked at the White House and set up Bush’s memorable first pitch at Yankee Stadium after 9/11, pointed to a September Washington Post op-ed he wrote to explain why he backed Biden. Latinos, he said, don’t feel welcome in a party that “condones racism” and looks away while Trump “destroys America.”

“The once-proud party of Lincoln, established to abolish slavery, has been transformed into a comatose crew brainwashed by white identity politics and narrow-minded nationalist nostalgia,” he wrote.

This is just more endorsement of the proposition that the Lincoln Project is putting forth and which is certainly a statement of truth: this election is about a choice between America or Trump. The super PAC says that with or without Bush’s endorsement of Biden, the PAC will continue to do it’s work.

We’re not only seeing a battle for the White House and the Senate, we’re seeing an intra party war in the Republican party. Again, all I can say is wow. I am stunned.

    • I am amazed to see this. The Democrats may be fragmented. That’s our downfall. But the GOP is broken. And the only way to save America is to send that bum in the White House and as many senators as possible packing.

      • Actually, our fragmentation has helped us handle the primaries well, easily the most chaotic I’ve seen since 1992. We lock horns but we’ve had practice with the kind of tussling the GOP are dealing with…poorly, I might add. Such is the value of allowing debate and dissent when working things out.

      • I have thought of Dems as “inclusive” rather than “fragmented”; the greatest strength is often also the greatest weakness — in this case, diversity; Dems look like America. (Ex: take a look at floor of any Dem convention and any GOP convention). Now they just need to respect and encompass each other’s difference.

        • Yeah, suz, but they can lean a little too hard on their individual cliques, as in the case of the Bernie Bros. But that seems to be going away and it’s about time.

      • I don’t think we are fragmented. Sure, there are a few fragments floating away, but they comprise a minuscule part of the Democratic Party.

  1. I think the super glue to hold our country together, really IS Biden, look, he has scored pretty good already a couple times, he may falter a little at times, but compared to fog-horn/leg-horn, he shines as the caring, sympathetic, knows what empathy really is and uses it without restraint or need to ,”get something out of it for himself” … trump, on the other hand, demonstrates and reinforces his narcissism is more important than any one else, perhaps a little room for Ivanka, if she stays withing arms reach …

All this latest BS, is another blanket to pull over his head at night because Bad Biden is locked into the dark of night, and may just slap Himself silly before November …

Biden knows how well a personal REAL caring comment from the next President will work to help adhere our citizens back into a working unit, the effect of police and sheriff’s walking with the protesters has been great, exactly what should happen, not rubber bullets, flash bangs and tear gas … together we can fix it, standing apart we WILL FAIL ….

  2. It is time for a rebirth of the Republican Party. And as you say, the clowns currently in office have got to go! And when trump goes, most will burrow into the sand and pray no one notices the telltale ring left on top.

    • Said rebirth will take a decade minimum, likely more. Boomers are going to continue exiting the planet in large numbers, too many of the younger ones in my age bracket are idiots and the ones in the millennial category are too often undisciplined, money-hungry Nazis. They got a lot of work to do…work they would have avoided had they JUST listened to the one good piece of political guidance W gave in welcoming Hispanics.

  3. At this point, opposing Trump goes beyond the usual politics and so I welcome this development. Still, I also believe it will be quite the shock when this is over, some of these Rs try restarting said usual politics and find out how little they work anymore.

  4. I’m so proud of the ” Lincoln Project” guys and the super Pac. Now those are real men standing up for what is right ! It is about choice, America or Trump …..
