Finally The GOP Primaries Get Interesting!

Those of you with long memory retention spans may remember that a bit over a year ago I wrote that there was frigging in the rigging for the GOP heading into 2024.

The reason was simple. Even art that early point AFP had announced that they wouldn’t be backing Donald Trump for President in 2024. That’s right. AFP. Americans For Prosperity. In other words, the political arm of the sludge producing Koch Industries.

This was huge at the time if for no better reason than because of their reach. It isn’t just because AFP will donate to a campaign, and it isn’t just that the AFP Super PAC comes into play, but AFP also has their own grassroots operation ready to step in and provide on the ground support for the anointed candidate.

And the Koch brother took his time, and did his due diligence. And last week AFP christened Nikki Haley as being the non Trump candidate worthy of their support. Which gives the Haley campaign a whole new spring to their step.

She hasn’t exactly been a fundraising behemoth, and not only will any donation from AFP be welcome, but so will be their reach. AFP and the Koch brothers can reach out to other rich GOP sh*tpokes to donate for Haley. And the fact that presumably the AFP will motivate their ground game to assist Haley is worth more than any donation, since it saves her from having to set up a ground game of her own.

Let’s not get all misty eyed here, Traitor Tot is still on a glide slope to the GOP nomination. And barring a political miracle, nothing that AFP and the Koch brother do is going to change that. But while Haley is chasing a dream, the Koch brother, through AFP is playing a longer term game.

In 2016 AFP, along with most other deep pocket GOP donors rolled the dice that His Lowness would be a malleable, simple minded buffoon that they could mold to their will. Instead he turned out to be a loose cannon who literally believed his own bullsh*t that because he mostly financed his own campaign with strong grassroots support, he wasn’t beholden to his betters.

Now that AFP has endorsed Haley, all of their forces ban be brought to beat. But not to elect Haley, she’s living a pipe dream. Koch Industries has decided that El Pendejo Presidente is bad for business, and if you don’t think that it doesn’t mean that most of the uber rich corporate and industrial sh*tpokes haven’t determined the same thing, you’re sorely mistaken.

What AFP has in store is to prolong the primaries for as long as possible. In fact, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the quid pro quo that Haley gave to AFP in return for their support was an agreement to not announce her exit from the primaries until she has the AFP go ahead to do so.

The logic is simple, and AFP learned it from nobody else than Bernie Sanders in his 2016 campaign against Hillary Clinton. Sanders was already dead in the water many weeks before the official end of the primaries, under the premise that he wanted to have every primary state to feel like they had their voices heard. Which was nothing more than bullsh*t sophistry, but it kept Clinton from pivoting yo yjr general election for weeks more than it should have.

And that’s exactly what AFP and the anti Trump deep pocket donors want. Keep Trump busy. Don’t let him pivot after Super Tuesday to the general election and start on the offensive. After all, as long as Haley is in, Hair Twitler still has to treat the primaries with a modicum of respect. Like Clinton, he can’t simply ignore the fact that Haley is still out there, holding town rallies, rallies, and offering an alternative.

And meanwhile, Jack Smith, Alvin Bragg, and Fani Willis are breathing down his neck. Writer E Jean Carroll has her sights trained on his ass in the 2nd week of January for possibly another $10 million. The DC Circuit appellate court has oral arguments on his absolute immunity claims for January 9th, and could literally rule against Trump within days, allowing S,ith to request an expedited review within days. And if the March 4th trial date for Trump in DC federal court should be appreciably delayed, Fani Willis down in Fulton County has already advised the judge that she would be ready to proceed to trial within 30 days.

This is the AFP plan, there’s no other explanation. They would rather have a sane, balanced, legislatively savvy Democrat like Biden getting another four years, and preferably putting the proverbial fork in Trumpism than worry about the virtual collapse of the system they have come to know, manipulate and love. Nikki Haley is never going to be President, but if AFP has their way, neityher is Trump. I can live with that.
