Ex-GOP Rep. Roasts Jim Jordan For Double Standard: ‘Hypocrisy Is Their Currency’

It looks like we have another classic Republican case of “do as I say, not as I do.” Right now, House GOPers really seem to have it in for Hunter Biden and are moving toward a criminal contempt of Congress for President Joe Biden’s son because he hasn’t complied with a subpoena in their investigation. Even though he made it clear that he would willingly testify to them as long as he was able to do so in public. And even though more than a few Republican lawmakers, like Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, have refused to comply with their own subpoenas from the House January 6 Select Committee.

I’d say this is the very definition of a double standard, and this was, in fact, the topic of discussion between former Rep. David Jolly (R-Fla.) who is definitely no fan of Donald Trump and who also left his own party behind, and MSNBC’s Joy Reid, per Raw Story.

“It’s embarrassing, david, because you know, first of all, they’re saying this guy is in contempt of congress because he wouldn’t come and go before a behind-closed-doors meeting with us because he wants to testify in public,” Reid said. “Which you would think they would want if they had anything on the president. That’s number one. number two, as [rep.] eric swalwell pointed out, they have got members who refused subpoenas.”

Like Jim Jordan, she noted. He’s been in defiance of a congressional subpoena by the House Jan. 6 committee for more than 600 days. This led Reid to wonder how Republicans can say “We want our subpoenas to be, you know, we want you to comply with our subpoenas when we ourselves don’t comply with subpoenas?”

“Because it’s the Republicans — hypocrisy is their currency,” Jolly replied. “So look, i think what we’re seeing in the hunter biden, you know, strategy, if you will, is he is clearly subscribing to the notion if you can’t win the process, win the story. So he’s not going to win the process. republicans have the votes. but he can win the story. which is exactly what we’re talking about. this is someone who is trying to comply.”

Jolly also noted “I think we’re also seeing a legal strategy. One of the things that [Hunter Biden’s attorney] Abbe Lowell said — they sent five different letters to the committee saying, ‘We’ll do it this way or how about this way,’ and they got no response. Congress is going to hold Hunter Biden in contempt and make a criminal referral to the Department of Justice.”

“doj doesn’t really want to take criminal referrals, but they especially don’t want to take this one where we have publicly seen hunter biden try to comply. this is a legal defense but it also is a political and public defense, saying ‘i might lose the process, but i’m going to win the story.'”

This is the level of hypocrisy that Republicans have attained. Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) warned us about what Jordan was up to and he arguably knew more than most about what was going on during the January 6 attempted siege of the Capitol building. According to The Ohio Capital-Journal, which quoted Cheney, who served as vice-chair of the House Select Committee investigating January 6, “Jim Jordan knew more about what Donald Trump had planned for January 6th than any other member of the House of Representatives.”

She added he “was involved, was part of the conspiracy in which Donald Trump was engaged as he attempted to overturn the election.”

So in other words, Jordan gets to slide by, but not Hunter Biden.

This is shameful on the part of Jordan and others who ignored the subpoenas but I’m not surprised. This is just typical behavior here. Hunter Biden and his attorneys are playing the hand they have been dealt, and perhaps, hopefully, if they remain steadfast, the younger he may indeed win the story.
