As much fun as today was for everyone, and by that I mean everyone but Kevin McCarthy, whom most sentient beings love to see humiliated, there is one group of people who are not at all amused by the antics that played out on Capitol Hill today, and that is the filthy rich assholes who donate billions to make sure Republicans keep screwing over everyone who is not a filthy rich asshole – the Republican donor class:
“On CNN Tuesday, Capitol Hill reporter Melanie Zanona reported that Republican lawmakers are enraged over the chaos surrounding GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy’s vote for Speaker — and so are their donors.
This comes as a bloc of five far-right insurgents in the House Republican caucus have stood as a group, along with several others, to deny McCarthy (R-CA) enough votes — the first time since 1923 that the House failed to elect a Speaker on the first ballot.
“What are you hearing?” said anchor Jake Tapper.
“As this vote has been dragging on, the anger and frustration inside the GOP is really growing,” said Zanona. “I talked to one GOP lawmaker who supports McCarthy, and they’re hearing from GOP donors and constituents back home that the party looks, quote, ‘stupid’ for not being able to elect a Speaker and talked to another Republican who said he’s also pro-McCarthy and predicted after three or four ballots there’s going to be pressure for Republicans to either adjourn the proceedings and try to regroup, or try to figure out some sort of Plan B strategy on the floor.”
As much as Gaetz and Boebert and the rest of them like to say they are all about the Republican base back in the boontoolies, what every Congress critter understands is that their continued cushy positions are dependent on the millionaires and billionaires who cough up big bucks every two years to give them the mics they use to lie to the rubes.
McCarthy, and Scalise and Gym Jordan will probably not so patiently explain that to the holdout idiots tonight over pizza, and tomorrow morning over coffee and doughnuts if need be, and they will fold like cheap luggage.
At least that’s what Eric Swalwell thinks, and I am inclined to agree.
100% agree. They are all spineless cowards who will get in line behind their spineless leader.

Yup
Didn't happen today and it was delicious to witness!

Sure was!
What about the endless sham hearings? They'll be somewhat relevant.

They are coming in any case, but sham hearings will not help them with the electorate.
They may become irrelevant, but hopefully not invisible. These may be seditionists. Waiting, now impatiently, for indictments. Planners/supporters must be held accountable. It’s time.

💯💯💯
Maybe. They seem to have him on a leash IMHO.

Well, he told them “no” today and boy did they squeal! He told them no because he could.
I wish I had better opinion to offer but I think McCarthy will be Speaker sometime tomorrow.
But he will always know Hakeem Jeffries outpolled him three times.
Gymbo and Scalise are eager to get sworn in and get busy with the regular old school Rat-Fucking of Democrats that stand them in good stead with their their voters, and the donor class has bidness to do with with the government – contrary to the fever dreams of the seditionists of destroying it.
Enjoy your pizza tonight kiddos… it’s the last thing you will get from McCarthy.

You could be right. It’s like when teenagers are bad and Daddy takes the car keys away. The idea is expedient and pragmatic, I’ll give it that. But David Jolly was on TV earlier today and he said (when Chris Hayes suggested this kind of a solution) that that conversation should have been had last night.
What Hayes and Jolly were talking about, though, was McCarthy caving in with more concessions and I don’t think he has any left. But the money angle could bring them to heel. Very possibly.
And the damage is done. With McCarthy having been humiliated like this, and having agreed to the snap vote to remover the Speaker, it’s going to be a shitshow for two years. But we knew that.
They likely did try last night, but the reviews are coming in on the shit show they put on today and apparently the donors didn’t like the rushes they saw.
But I could be wrong, I hate making predictions…
Yeah, yeah, we’ll see if “sanity” actually prevails tomorrow. Me, I’m thinking there are more fun ways to lose at gambling. Need I remind ANYONE assuming these people were going to “see the light” is a big chunk of how we got here?
Again, a completely dysfunctional H.O.R. is as good as it gets for the moneyed interests that put these morons into office. At least the moneyed interests that put their money ONLY behind G.Q.P. candidates. Many corporations support both parties-these moneyed interests might not be very happy right now. Hard to say tho’ since the house as it stands today works in the interests of the wealthy and corporations since it isn’t working.
My guess, going by the failed votes, most of the money folks want a functional House. It’s the remnants of MAGA that are screwing it up. I personally look for a virtual coup d’etat from Jeffries and his caucus that will put your theory to shame.
