Despite yesterday’s mishap I’m hanging in there, and checking in on Trump’s Manhattan trial. (Michael Cohen so far is said to be behaving) I’m certain I’ll want to write about it after court is done but there is other news. In fact, there’s other news that’s Trump related in another state. Florida to be specific, where Trump crony Peter Navarro is in federal prison doing a four month stint for being convicted of Contempt of Congress. It seems Navarro has just had himself a visitor. Donald Trump Jr.!
I kid you not. It’s one of those bits of news today buried in all sorts of other goings on but as you can see in this brief article by The Hill Junior decided Navarro needed some cheering up (? – from HIM?) so he had his Secret Service detail take him to where Navarro is currently (not) enjoying rather less comfortable living than he’s used to. The Hill cites an ABC News report of Junior saying Navarro is in “good spirits” after having visited him in jail.
Sure Junior. I’ll believe Melania has stayed with Trump out of love all this time before I believe THAT one. Perhaps Junior dipped into his specially enhanced (with psychedelics) before being escorted inside? As for Navarro, I can’t help but wonder if after a visit with a coke-head like Don Jr. Navarro got the whole treatment from the guards before returning to the yard or his cell. By full treatment I mean full strip search including cavity search – for any “pick-me-up” “medicine” Junior might have passed over. (Question – was Ronny Jackson at Mar A Lago recently?)
Anyway the linked article is a short one. But the point it tries to make in it’s pissing on us and trying to convince us it’s rain manner is Navarro is doing just fine. No complaints. Well, you already know what I think of that. We are also informed:
Trump Jr. told ABC News it’s “important to show support” for Navarro, confirming his visit, adding that he believes Navarro is wrongly convicted.
Well, the one fact we know for certain is that Junior did in fact visit Navarro in prison as the above statement shows. What is far from clear is why Junior did so. For me at least it makes for some interesting speculation. Let’s face it, Junior is pretty much a real life version of Fredo from The Godfather. And even his drug addled brain knows his brother-in-law has spent some time in a federal pen, visiting HIS dad. In years past I’ve written about how Jared saw things from the visitor’s side of the glass and knew he never, ever wanted to be on his dad’s side of it. And starting early on in the Trump administration hired outstanding legal counsel to prepare for the possibility of throwing Trump under the bus (and his wife Ivanka too) before it could be done to him.
Maybe Don Jr. wanted to see for himself what Jared had experienced. HIS dad isn’t in any danger of being imprisoned anytime soon, even if convicted in Manhattan. Prison is much more likely from one of the other cases but even then it’s a long ways off. Still, when he’s not coke out of his gourd or crashed he probably has moments of lucidity and in his heart knows his pops not only doesn’t love him but is embarrassed by him. And will throw him and his brother Fredo 2 (aka Eric) under the bus to prison in a heartbeat to save his own ass. So he wanted to see just what it might actually be like.
Another possibility is he was there on Trump’s orders. To tell Navarro to continue to keep his mouth shut and once he (Trump) was back in the WH this time he’ll actually pardon him. And find a way to reward him with some appointment. That actually makes the most sense. Navarro has been in there long enough that he might just decide he wants no more of prison. Prosecutors will certainly want to have a chat with him when he gets out, and he might just decide to look out for himself rather than Trump.
So file this away in the “keep an eye out for future developments” place in your brain housing group. It’s a minor story right now, but if Junior was sent on a mission to keep Navarro on the reservation remember we’re talking about Junior! He’s more than capable of f**king it up by being too explicit and or heavy-handed. Perhaps I’m reading too much into this. But maybe not.
In the meantime I suspect the late-night hosts will have some fun with this story. And it has the makings of one helluva SNL skit. But I chose the title pic for a reason. That brick background with a palm behind him is not unlike what you’d expect the entrance/lobby of a federal prison in Florida to look like. And the look on Junior’s face is I’m quite certain representative of exactly how he felt getting a brief glimpse of prison. An “Oh sh!t. I could wind up in place like this!

Not much old Donny can do for Navarro. Even if he wins in November (man I hope that doesn’t happen), Navarro will have served his sentence by the time he’s sworn in.
All he can do is get the felony removed from his record.
Maybe Junior wants a taste of what Father’s Day will be like for him in the future.
Are we still paying for the the orange turdlets’ (tfg being the orange turd) Secret Service protection? Does that ever end?
Also, I’m hoping someone can explain to me why candidates who are not yet duly elected are given access to top secrets and sensitive information. They shouldn’t get to see any of it until they’re elected.
Junior shouldn’t be getting any Secret Service protection.
According to a Washington Post article from 2021, Trump ordered (in the final days of his administration) that Secret Service protection be extended for 6 months after Trump left office but there’s NO reason that any of the spawn should be getting Secret Service protection at this point. (In fact, the only protection offered candidates who aren’t incumbents or former presidents doesn’t begin until 120 days before the general election, and even that protection only extends to the candidates and their spouses–not their families.
I’m also not sure where the line about the “Secret Service detail” came from because neither the article from “The Hill” nor the ABC News article that “The Hill” links to makes any mention of the Secret Service.
It’s murky. In the summer after Trump was out of office a request was approved to extend Secret Service protection to his adult spawn for an additional six months, taking it through the end of the year. Since before Trump there have been instances (due to the change in terrorism threat levels post 9/11) where during travel protection is afforded but it’s all really hush-hush. Special circumstances create special “exemptions” for lack of a better way of putting it. So can I say with certainty that a trip to a federal prison including going inside (ever been in one? I have, after college to play basketball against prisoner teams) even in that environment I don’t see a chance in hell that one of two agents from the Mar A Lago detail didn’t accompany Junior on his little field trip. Yes, I could be wrong about that but it’s not wild-ass speculation on my part. Frankly, given what seems like obvious drug abuse I wouldn’t be surprised if agents keep tabs on Junior when he’s out and about as a matter of course, even if it’s “unofficial.”
Jr. is giving Navarro a job on the campaign.
Ha! One criminal visiting another criminal! How appropriate!
