MAGA is rough trade, there’s no question of that. The feral side of politics was submerged prior to the advent of Donald Trump and his deplorables on the political scene. From the very beginning, the descent into madness was swift and determined. It started on the ride down the escalator, then the Lock Her Up! chants at every Trump rally commenced.
Now the newest guy to go over the top is Ron DeSantis. He thinks talking tough and macho ads are going to get him elected. You’ve heard and seen all of his greatest hits to date: “We’re going to slit throats on day one,” followed by threats to “bomb” drug cartels until they’re “stone cold dead.”
And you’ve seen Top Guv and God Made A Fighter videos. And those aired long before the ones with homoerotic themes and the Nazi sonnengrad, with DeSantis’ face superimposed.
Here’s Ron lashing out at the people he loathes, namely the press. Why? Why because they dare to ask him to explain himself and/or his policies, that’s why. How dare they?

And never forget for a minute that egregiously stupid bill that was before the Florida State Senate, where bloggers were going to be characterized in the same classification as lobbyists and forced to disclose how much payment they made from each blog — or be subject to criminal penalties.
Ron DeSantis is a fascist. With any luck, he’ll fall on his face in the primary, finish out his term of office as governor of Florida and vanish from politics. I suppose it is possible he could try to run for president again in 2028, but let’s not make that judgement call until we see how long he tries to stick out this run.

Whether the authoritarian is a fascist or a Communist or an Iranian mullah or a military strongman, the one thing they have in common is their hatred of a free and independent press.
