Marjorie Taylor Greene’s favorite House Speaker, Mike Johnson, put in a boot-licking appearance Tuesday at the Manhattan Courthouse where Donald Trump’s hush-money trial is taking place. I’m 100 percent certain he’s just doing this to impress the tangerine scream by sniffing around the hem of his pants and calling the case an “atrocity.”

Folks, the real atrocity is that we elected a soulless, shrieking coward to be president in 2016. None of this expensive nonsense being paid for by taxpayers would have happened under a Clinton presidency. Sure Hillary Clinton isn’t perfect but she’s everything Donald Trump isn’t: shrewd, intelligent, and not particularly self-absorbed. If Trump were any more self-absorbed he’d be inside out.

But instead, we have jackanapes like Johnson, Sens. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), and Reps. like Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) and Cory Mills (R-Fla.), plus former GOP Vivek Ramaswamy all wringing their hands at the courthouse over poor, poor Trump.

And if you don’t think plenty of Democrats were hopping mad, well think again. Axios reports that while 163 Democrats and 196 Republicans joined together to kill Greene’s preposterous measure to have him removed as House Speaker, they are now warning Johnson that situations can change.

One senior House Democrat told the outlet, “It’s pretty clear that our preset position is [saving Johnson] was a one-time circumstance because Ukraine funding was so critical.”

“we didn’t want to put him in a position where he paid a price for doing the right thing…but he could pay a price for doing the wrong thing,” the lawmaker added.

“inserting himself into the president’s criminal trial, it’s unprecedented for a sitting speaker of the house of representatives.”

Rep. Annie Kuster (D-N.H.), chair of the center-left New Democrat Coalition put things a bit more bluntly, telling Axios that “probably our patience will wear thin if he needs us.”

She remembered what happened to former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) who was “dissing us” before he was removed as speaker last fall and warned that “Johnson might want to count his votes before he gets too deep into all of that.”

Rep. Becca Balint (D-Vt.) added “People are just absolutely shocked that this is where we’ve sunk,” adding that the trial visit will “absolutely … be part of the calculation” on a further motion to table.

But as noted by The Hill, all of that was apparently far away from Johnson’s mind. In an interview with NBC News said he shared a ride in the car with the former president, from Trump Tower to the Manhattan courthouse where Trump sat before Judge Juan Merchan as the fifth week of his criminal trial wore on.

Johnson had some sharp words about the court proceedings, describing them as election interference. He added Trump is enraged about not being able to campaign.

“he’s clearly frustrated that he’s been tied up now for the fifth week in this trial that has no merit, that prosecutors had already passed on eight years ago, that they can’t define any crime that he has supposedly committed and the entire case is based upon a known perjurer, michael Cohen,” johnson said wednesday in the interview. “so it’s an atrocity.”

Somehow Johnson forgets Cohen’s purported “perjury” was done at the behest of his then-boss, Donald Trump. Perhaps critical thinking skills aren’t Johnson’s strong suit.

In a moment when Johnson’s hyperbole overfloweth, he said he spoke with the ex-president about how the “soon-to-be-official nominee” of the Republican Party is required to be in court most of the week while witnesses testify when he should be out on the campaign trail in “what many of us regard to be the most critical election year of our lifetime.”

Johnson has a point that this election year is “critical” but it’s because of what he and other extremist Christians want to impose on the rest of us. Not because the rights they believe they have over us are in any danger. With or without Trump, we’re seeing crazy right-wing laws being passed that harm the rights of women, people of color, and people in the LGBTQ+ community.

But Johnson continued his pity party for Trump, who pointed out the large area around the courthouse that had been cordoned off by law enforcement as his motorcade arrived. Johnson said he thinks this is a politically orchestrated attempt to keep Trump’s supporters well away from the entrance. Well, since they tend to do things like riot and overrun places of government, I think it’s common sense to keep them at a safe distance. Johnson, however, sees it differently.

“i think it’s part of the strategy and i just think it’s a travesty of justice,” he told nbc news.

Because Johnson is speaker of the House, he’s the highest-ranking lawmaker to show up at Trump’s trial, and according to The Hill, this is evidence that House Republicans are supporting Trump despite his legal problems and the really kind of disgusting promiscuous details revealed in court.

I’m thinking, however, that if he p*sses off the Democrats one more time, Greene may not have as much trouble booting Johnson out of his job.

  1. “Perhaps critical thinking skills aren’t Johnson’s strong suit.”

He’s a top ranking republican. Obsequience to Trump is all that is required, and critical thinking skills would prevent that.

  2. Keep thinking why dems would “support “ Johnson … since only 6 months till election (and nothing could go wrong in USA or world🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️). Yeah gonna be a bumpy ride. Wonder if some republicans stay in office until November… when Biden wins and Da Loons try to install project 2025 … and then quit… and let speaker Jeffries have all the fun. 👀😳😂🤷🏽‍♂️ . Only reason I would stay in office and really piss off the insane ones.

  3. The only atrocity I can see is ‘pubes supporting the person who tried to commit treason by attempting to overthrow the freely and fairly elected government. To my last breath I will believe every ‘pube in congress supports treason and needs to be appropriately punished. Obviously trump needs to be put away for the rest of his worthless life.
