The right-wing firebrand Charlie Kirk has been shot and Donald Trump says he is dead at a local hospital. Kirk was speaking at Utah Valley University, just north of Provo, Utah. The video is really tough to take, but it is here:

I don’t really want to speculate since it is very early (within the last hour), but with the blood pouring from his neck, it is really difficult to see how he could live through this. We have a report from NBC News: (Live updates available) (See update Trump announcement)
“We heard a big loud shot, I saw a bunch of blood come out of Charlie, I saw his body kind of kick back and go limp, and everybody dropped to the ground,” Hickens said.
The crowd immediately dropped to the ground and after a few moments started running out of the outdoor pavilion area, knocking over barricades that had been put up. Hickens said he slowed down once he realized there were no more shots being fired and he felt safe.
“I kind of turned around and all of a sudden I saw officers walking with this very elderly gentleman with white hair,” Hickens said. “They had him arrested, they had him on his knees and he was screaming about his rights and all that stuff. They cuffed him and put him away.”
Police have the suspect in custody, and from video on Twitter, it is obvious that it is an older man, approximately aged 70. The right-wingers are already calling him a left-wing boomer. UPDATE Police DO NOT have a suspect in custody. See NBC News
Authorities do not have a suspect in custody, according to Utah Valley University spokesperson Ellen Treanor.
The school had said earlier in an alert that police had detained a suspect.
I probably never agreed with Kirk on anything but I am really shaken up by this. There has been quite a bit of violence against specific MAGA people (Trump, others), such as the bomb of the Tesla truck, the two incidents in which people tried for Trump (who was about an inch away from assassination.) And I am tired of this. There is no place for violence in our politics, none, from whoever.
I am also aware of the violent actions taken against undocumented immigrants and homeless people. And the assassination of a MN Senator in her own home, and of course, always, January 6th. In no way does that excuse this. I don’t get it.
This is sickening. He was a father and husband. I don’t see how he could survive that shot.

Let’s not jump the gun. We don’t know who this guy is or what his story is. I would ask you to bear in mind that the young fellow who took a shot at Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, was a registered Republican.
And speaking of martial law, does it occur to you that maybe this is a Reichstag file event, to bring that about? Expect conspiracy theories to flourish but don’t jump in and start your own until you know the facts.
Maybe the old man has relatives terrorized by ICE. And I’m not saying his actions are justified in that or any event. My point is that we absolutely do not need martial law in this country and not because one MAGA propagandist gets shot.
It’s a terrible thing. I don’t like a single thing about Charlie Kirk but I am far and away from believing that violence is the answer to anything. Or martial law.

The MN Democrat who was shot prompted virtually ZERO reactions on the GOP side (beyond the usual “thoughts and prayers” ritual that happens virtually all the time) while with the piece of slime that’s Charlie Kirk? There are prominent Democrats who are PUBLICLY denouncing the violence (and, even then, they are calling out both sides while the “right” continues–as we see with Comrade Mark–its unwarranted attack on “the left” WITH ZERO EVIDENCE).
Okay, right-wing extremist takes out a MN legislator’s husband, dog, and her, and yet somehow this is worse? It’s all horrible, it is horrible that there is so much political hatred, so much so that Democrats can be murdered in their home, and a guy like Charlie Kirk murdered giving a speech, and both sides blame the entirety on the other side. Except only one side believes martial law (for Democrats, obviously) is the answer.
