In a move that ought to shock and enrage the nation, Attorney General Pam Bondi has found a way to further politicize the already unforgivably political Justice Department in order to protect Donald Trump from the explosive details in a coming Wall Street Journal report. There is so much wrong with Bondi’s announcement that it is hard to process. Suffice it to say that Bondi has the Justice Department working as Trump’s private law firm again. Only this matter is much, much more explosive than when it defended Trump from the accusations by E. Jean Carroll; the root of this matter involves the hundreds of files and miles of documentation compiled by the very department that is now moving to defend Trump from accusations forthcoming in the much-anticipated Wall Street Journal report.

According to a report in Rawstory, Bondi is “ready” to take the Journal to court over the release:

Attorney General Pam Bondi told President Donald Trump on Thursday night that her department is “ready” to make a major move in the Jeffrey Epstein files case.

Now, to be sure, simply releasing the files wouldn’t otherwise obviously relate to Trump’s inchoate lawsuit against the Journal but for the fact that the release practically accompanies the announcement that Trump plans to sue.

It is also critical to point out that the “grand jury files” do not equate to the entirety of the Epstein documentation within the Department of Justice. No prosecutor is wholly bound to turn over everything to the grand jury – only enough to get indictments and accompanying mitigating evidence against an indictment. It is very possible to bury a file within the larger FBI investigation.

This would be especially necessary when there are already leaks regarding the investigation and-or article, as shown in this tweet by Chris Hayes:

Well this sure as hell isn’t incriminating! Nothing to see here.

Right.

Additionally, there is no question that Bondi is announcing a “move” against the release of the article. On whose behalf is this “move”? Quite obviously, it is on behalf of Donald Trump, who is not the DOJ’s client. The proper procedure for such a thing would be for Trump to hire a private attorney who then sues the Wall Street Journal and subpoenas the records from the DOJ. But Bondi is under the impression that the DOJ works for Trump – which it does when someone sues the government over policy, say a presidential order. But none of this originates in the office of the president.

No, this was Bondi’s decision, and the DOJ is traditionally wholly separate from the office of the President – not that that fact is unusual. Sue a decision by the State Department to revoke a passport, and your suit will be captioned “You v. Marco Rubio, Secretary of State…” And so this is all out of sorts as it often is in the Trump administration, where everything belongs to Trump and serves Trump.

If Bondi releases the DOJ’s Grand Jury files, read them – definitely, they’ll be chock-full of accusations (And only accusations, because they never got through the process) against powerful people. But DO. NOT. ASSUME. that the entirety of the investigation was released – no, that was only on the table when Bondi promised to release the “files” accrued in the investigation.

But have no doubt, her “move” wouldn’t have been made had there not been A) National outrage over the non-release of the files, and B) an impending blockbuster by the Journal. And the sole purpose of such a move is to protect Trump, who is already softening the ground with “Comey! Obama! Russia, Russia, Russia!”

This is getting insane, but then again, so are the files, while the abuse was reprehensible and should be treated as such.

  1. There is no way *all* of the Epstein files will be released now, when that’s what needs to be done. That makes me angry. And I’ll bet MAGA won’t be happy with a partial release, once they realize it’s not all of it, and they will. Not all MAGAts are idiots, even if they adore tRump. *Someone* will figure it out.`

  2. So the president of the USA is taking on Rupert (The Fascist of Oz) Murdoch now. Hmmmm, not sure which of them is (a) the sleaziest (b) the more powerful. Should make for great TV.
