Trump’s obsession with sharks is well-known. Hell, lots of people have shark phobia so this is a rare thing he has in common with tons of even regular folks. Of course most people scared of sharks don’t stand up a campaign rallies and ramble about being on a sinking boat and having to choose between the boat’s battery electrocuting them or getting eaten by a nearby shark. Well, connected with a moment this past week where the President was with voters. Someone called out for “more Dark Brandon” and the President smiled and said we’d be seeing it. And last night in MI the President’s alter-ego in fact did pop up and take a bite out of Trump:

Dark Brandon appears rarely. I think perhaps the President knows it’s a good thing but also doesn’t want to wear it out. Or really turn Dark Brandon loose until his convention acceptance speech. I’m betting he will, complete with the sunglasses. Between now and then perhaps The Lincoln Project can come up with something on this theme. I recall recently Trump doing an event next to a lovely lake and noting that thankfully since it was a lake there were no sharks in it. For someone so obsessed with sharks you’d think he’d know there ARE species of sharks that can thrive in fresh water. And bite people.
In fact, I know of at least one large fresh body water lake in a very Trump friendly state that can and does have sharks in it. I just won’t mention it. Trump can look it up, or have someone look it up for him if he wants to keep his distance. Hell, he might never set foot in that state again although it’s red enough he doesn’t need to.
Given the news I just learned about while writing this (Ursula called me) because I haven’t had the TV on and have been writing (or trying to) this evening I won’t go cracking jokes about Trump tripping and falling off a certain bridge in that state. But tonight’s big news will fade with time. In the meantime LP has some great material to work with after a little time has passed. Us old farts who remember the original SNL know this gag and will I’m sure enjoy seeing it again and younger folks who haven’t will too.
