And they say the age of miracles is past. Ivanka Trump, who announced a while back that politics wasn’t in alignment with her “core values” because of its inherently nasty nature, (and Ivanka’s soul is as pure as her bleached hair, right?) has evidently had a change of heart. Because lo and behold, there she is in North Carolina. So for what purpose, becomes the operant question. Today is Wednesday. Daddy has a town hall scheduled for Friday night in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Is she there to support that?

Or, is she playing Good Samaritan? She’s there to help the victims of the Hurricane Helene ravaged state? And how does that work, exactly? She’s going to distribute the goods that Franklin Graham got collected but then that her father decided to brag about having been responsible for? Or, she found out about Daddy’s GoFundMe and she’s there to lend — bear with me now — legitimacy to the effort?

And let me define Ivanka’s “legitimacy.” She has managed to stay one step ahead of the indictments that have landed on her father’s and brothers’ doorsteps. That’s about it. If you can find a better definition of Ivanka’s *wholesomeness*, please share.

And no, I don’t know where Jared is. Probably talking to the 1% of the people who are actually Americans and who invest in his company, the other 99% of which are all foreign interests. Meidas Touch:

Just a few days ago, Trump started using the aftermath of Hurricane Helene to hold political events and attack his political opponents. In a press release on Sunday, the Trump campaign stated Trump would be visiting Valdosta, Georgia to “facilitate the distribution of relief supplies.”

Trump campaign press release

During his visit to Valdosta on Monday, Trump claimed that he brought “truckloads” of relief for those in Georgia who are “suffering in the terrible aftermath of Hurricane Helene.” However, in a less publicized portion of Trump’s speech, Trump also stated, “We came down with truckloads of things, and we’re going to have that done by Franklin’s incredible organization.”

Samaritan’s Purse regularly arrives after a disaster to bring relief. Their semi-trucks are numbered and even have hurricane imagery on the side. Trump offered no explanation how his involvement added anything to the normal operation of Samaritan’s Purse.

And of course the press acts as a stenographer in Trump’s case, always has. He says that he’s “bringing truckloads of supplies” then that’s what they report. Just like when he said he was “struck by a bullet” that became the headline. Trump spake and lo, it was so. Nobody even questions his veracity, despite him being the biggest liar in politics.

The pro-Trump Washington Examiner also repeated Trump’s claims that he brought “truckloads” of relief, and in their article said Trump was “also expected to help distribute cleanup supplies.” The Trump campaign hasn’t released any footage of “truckloads” from the Trump campaign or Trump’s organizations or any footage of Trump unloading or distributing supplies.

And there were different versions of this story. One headline I recall is that Trump “gave $25 million” to the relief efforts. I don’t think he’s got $25 million in liquid assets. If he did, he might be able to pay some of his legal judgments, at least in part. And maybe it wasn’t “his” $25 million, maybe it was Samaritan’s Purse and other peoples’ money. We can only guess.

But it’s all part of the saga of King Midas the Billionaire Benefactor, who is out there throwing a $100 bill to a woman in a grocery store one minute, and throwing boxes of chicken nuggets at MAGAs at a football game the next, and my all time favorite will always be Trump throwing the paper towels in Puerto Rico, with his wife Hurricane Barbie, in attendance. It will be hard for Trump to bottom that crass display.

So this may be the mess that Trump is having Ivanka clean up. I have no idea. I speculate on what facts are available. But if Ivanka is there, there’s something in it for her. It just remains to be seen what.

  1. How can they make money from this?

    Repairing reputational damage.

By polishing the tarnished brass of the Trump name, they can make it look like gold. Enough to convince a few confused idiots that it is gold, and is as trustworthy as real gold.

    So the grifts can continue.
