Imagine a world where there is widespread mental illness, believing that the solution to a bomb, let’s say, is more bombs and more “good guys” with bombs, because the alternative of limiting bombs to war is unthinkable. Does that sound confusing? It is indeed but substitute the word “guns” and that’s the world in which we live.

Children pick up the attitudes of their parents, needless to say. And this week a couple of them, raised in homes where guns are easily accessible, decided to show up to school armed. One was seven and the other one four. When I was four I played Annie Oakley with a broomstick horse and a cap gun, I sure as hell didn’t have access to the real thing. Agence France-Presse via Raw Story:

In the Texas case, an off-duty police officer working at the school “called in for assistance advising that a four-year-old student was in possession of a loaded handgun on campus,” police said in a statement.

The officer took possession of the weapon.

The parents of the child were identified as the owners of the gun and the father, aged 30, was arrested and charged with making a firearm accessible to children and abandoning or endangering a child. […]

On Monday in Arizona a seven-year-old child was found to have a non-loaded gun, along with a fully-loaded magazine in their backpack at a school in the town of Cochise, the sheriff’s office said.

It is said that our personalities are formed by the age of four. Certainly a child of seven has lifelong personality traits already ingrained. In the case of these two children, it’s pretty clear that growing up in gun culture has taught them that you need to take a gun to school, or, at the very least that it’s okay to do so.

What else it might have taught them and how these weapons might have been used, we didn’t find out this week, thank God. But I think it’s also pretty clear that people who carry guns unlawfully are prepared to use them unlawfully.

If there are some bad seeds growing up in America it’s because our psychological and social soil is badly polluted. Show me a gun nut and I’ll show you somebody who’s afraid of the boogeyman. There’s nothing wrong with a gun in the home for the purpose of protecting the home. Gun nuts are gun nuts because they believe that they need to defend themselves against the government and/or unseen hostile forces such as Antifa, which may swoop in and attack them at any time.

The gun lobby planted these idiotic seeds decades ago. Now we are at the place of fetishizing guns and fomenting a culture of violence. Republican candidates for both chambers of congress advertise all the time their candidacy for election, carrying guns and rifles. It’s a status symbol now. It’s a tribal symbol. You want to be in with the in crowd, and if you’re of a certain mentality, you buy guns. You vote for other gun nuts, like Ted Cruz, who thought it was so hip, slick and cool to fry bacon wrapped around the barrel of a machine gun.

You can’t blame these young children growing up around this madness. This is normal to them. You can emphatically blame the political culture that nurtures the madness and normalizes it.

  1. A violent, hypocritical culture that allows criminal traitors to place three judges, one a belligerent drunk & frat boy rapist, on the Supreme court; and another traitor president to make political prisoners of cannabis users while they toast their efforts with legal lethal drugs & also betray the highest office in the land…We have reaped what we have sown. Period. Expect more hell on earth. Fact. The fastest way to get into trouble in this land is to tell the truth. The fastest way to power & money is to lie & cover your ass no matter what you do. Isn’t Trump still free today after planning & implementing a violent overthrow of the government TWENTY MONTHS AGO? Sure he is. Everyone is so sure he’s in SERIOUS trouble. Really? Is he in prison? Then he’s not in serious trouble. Anyone who disagrees hasn’t been sent to prison as a political prisoner in America. Keep kidding yourselves.

    • Yeah. Unless you’re a black man asleep on the couch when the non uniformed police bust into the wrong apt. Then you get shot dead because you have a legal gun. Their excuse? He had a gun. God. Don’t you love how the slimy evil bastards can twist every goddamn situation to justify their crimes. If that girl hadn’t filmed George Floyd being murdered by the police, to most of white America, he’s just another niggar shot for breaking whatever rule the police made up. Slavery over? Depends on what metrics you look at. Nope. Just been whitewashed by the law. Only white people believe it’s over. Black people know better, especially the ones who haven’t joined the white establishment.

  2. Wait a minute. In the Texas case, the father was arrested for and charged with “making a firearm accessible to a child.” How in the world has the Texas legislature not done away with THAT criminal statute? The State makes it easier for someone to get a gun permit than it does to vote but it would allow people to be arrested for just leaving their guns around so their kids can get them? That’s just crazy–even by Texas standards.

(Yes, folks. I WAS being facetious there.)
