Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen of the committee,
My compliments to the chef! Not since Watergate have I seen such a professionally and impartially handled set of hearings as the ones you’ve run. And don’t even get me started on Benghazi!
Your televised hearings have been riveting. Now, television can be entertaining, exciting, and even compelling, but to make it truly transformative, there have to be facts, evidence, and visual graphics. And you have provided those, by the boxcar load, in every hearing.
The shining star of your committee has been bipartisanship. When Kevin McCarthy pulled his slate of potential committee members in a fit of pique, his whole goal was to frame the whole thing as a Purely partisan hit job. But Speaker Pelosi found two conservative, sane, lifetime Republicans to go on the committee, and short circuited Trump and McCarthy’s plan. There is no sane way they can call it a partisan hit job.
Because Kinzinger and Cheney came through in the clutch. Both have been given the opportunity to be the lead examiner for a hearing, and both have contained themselves to asking simple, direct, probing, nonpartisan questions designed to obtain information, and not to score cheap political points. The put the final nail in the partisan hit job coffin.
If all goes well, your job is almost done. If your schedule holds true, then this week will be the final two public hearings, and I have no doubt that they will be blockbusters worthy of your efforts. And then you’ll retire to your chambers, work with your team, and write up a final report on the January 6th insurrection.
But now I beg you, please release your final report, and nothing more! There is chatter in the media that you are considering issuing possible criminal referrals along with your final report. Do not do that. Or you will undo everything you have accomplished.
Your committee has been nothing but impartial and nonpartisan. If you issue criminal referrals against Trump or anybody else, then you give the GOP the greatest gift they could hope for. You allow Trump, McCarthy, McConnell, and the rest of the GOP snake pit to once again scream to the heavens that it was always just a purely political hit job!
You have been scrupulously nonpartisan. Please stay that way. Because if you issue criminal referrals, and even independent of them the DOJ decides to indict, the GOP cal still tar those indictments as Political hit jobs caused by the J6 committee.
Please. Leave it alone. Finish your hearings, however many of them there are, retire, and write your final report, and let that be the end of it. You have already provided the DOJ with a detailed roadmap of corruption. Let them follow it, and reach their own conclusions, after all, they operate under a different set of rules than you do. Issue your final report and let it be. Because I fear that if you issue criminal referrals, you’ll turn your greatest victory into your worst defeat.

I agree. Criminal referrals would be superflous. DOJ decides what to investigate and what to indict. A letter from Congress requesting charges would give the rethugs their fake outrage partisan witch hunt talking points. Why accomodate them? Let them deal w/ all the info the committee has unearthed.
As to the number of hearings, I’ve heard they could go into August, there are so many people coming forward now.
And so when the Justice Department indicts the Trumpians, as they very well should and must, you think they won’t call it a partisan hit job?
Neville Chamberlain had a strategy for dealing with his “political problem”…just remember how an appeasement strategy did for him.
Courage requires action if the authority is given.
