Stupid is as stupid does   Mama Gump

Because stupid never learns. It all started in Arizona. The GOP dominated Arizona Senate announced that they were authorizing an audit of the 2020 general election results in Maricopa county. The Arizona Senate seeded the audit, to be conducted by a fly by night operation called The Cyber Ninjas with a pittance, with the balance to be provided by crowd funding. Which meant that the fraudit was immediately oversubscribed by massive dark GOP money donations to the crowd funding sight.

It was a total nightmare. I won’t bore you here with a replay of the klown kar circus that was the fraudit, but here’s the takeaway. The GOP dominated Maricopa County County Board of Elections excoriated the GOP Senate on their procedures, and put them on notice that they were now on the hook for all new voting machines in Maricopa county, since the original ones had been turned over to an unauthorized vendor outside of the chain of custody. Everyday Arizonans started bitching, and the longer the debacle went on, even GOP Senators started complaining about getting more than they bargained for. And the final result showed that Biden actually won by a few more than the election tally showed. No fraud was found.

And now Wisconsin is falling down the same rabbit hole. Their Senate announced an audit, and appointed for former GOP Supreme Court judge, who openly admitted that he doesn’t actually have a functional understanding of how elections actually work to oversee it. This dude has flopped more than a carp on the bottom of a boat, and the Wisconsin Attorney General has publicly called for the whole thing to be called off, and threatened legal action to keep this shit sane.

And the Pennsylvania GOP controlled Senate has authorized a fraudit of their own, but they have taken it to a new level. They are demanding that all sorts of highly sensitive personal voter information be turned over to a yet to be determined private firm, prompting the Pennsylvania Attorney General to threaten legal action to quash the effort.

At least Trump lost Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. But now the Texas legislature is in the process of authorizing a fraudit of the voting in the four largest Texas counties, two Democratic and two Republican, in a state that Trump won by 6 points! This is a Trump attempt to sow distrust and doubt as to the accuracy of future elections, making it easier to claim fraud in future losing efforts.

This is a dangerous game that the GOP is playing. All they had to do was to look at the reaction in Arizona, Even everyday Arizonans started  complaining about the circus, and even elected GOP officials railed against the stupidity in public, leaving the Arizona GOP Senate looking like schmucks. And now that the Arizona fraudit is finally done, the national media is gleefully turning their full attention on the Wisconsin fraudit, with predictably6 similar results. And Pennsylvania will be on deck when Wisconsin is squeezed dry. None of these states are going to come out looking good, not even to their own constituents.

Trump is personally and politically all in on 2022, and his sole platform is relitigating the Big Steal of 2020. But the majority of non Trump acolytes have already moved beyond the 2020 election, they want to know what government is doing to help make their lives better right now! And while the Democrats are pushing a forward facing agenda to improve life for the lower and middle class, The GOP is fixated on relitigating the 2020 election. It may play to Trump’s base, whom he has already ordered to sit out 2022 and 2024, but it’s just pissing everybody else off.

  1. Tonight msnbc showed the giant signage in Times Square depicting a slouching Trump with giant letters that said, ‘Trump Lost’. There are smaller versions of the same display on billboards across the country. The sweetest thing is a republican group put them up. The shine is off. With his paper thin skin, the one in Times Square has to gall him.

Personally, I think the Wisconsin AG ought to let it proceed. BUT ONLY if ALL election results fall under the purview of the “audit.” Two GOPers were elected to the Wisconsin Senate in 2020; both won by very significant margins but, if they feel their elections were “tainted”–as HAD to be the case if the Presidential race was flawed–they shouldn’t have any problem with their victories being audited. (Of course, that would be the proper and ethical situation, a pair of terms the current GOP doesn’t fully seem to understand.)

  3. This is all they have left, Murf. All their ideas have been tried and come up wanting. Their leadership is decimated to a point that outdoes the dearth of such after W’s exit, which I didn’t think was possible. Many of their donors are dead, under investigation or totally bailing over the COVID crap they keep peddling (unless you’re AT&T, in which case you just made your bad year worse by being out as being behind OANN). And speaking of COVID, their voters are dying or being crippled by it in ways that might break all that voter suppression and gerrymandering. So stunts like this are all they’ve got.

In short, they prove this Oscar Wilde quote to a tee: “When the gods wish to punish us, they answer our prayers.”

  4. I love the part about how the voting machines were compromised by outside parties (the dumbasses gop doing audit). And now will have to be replaced by the election committee. But my favorite is they only managed to prove Joe Biden got more votes than previously thought. What morons.

  5. This is the point at which the ACLU should sue for invasion of privacy those governments (and individually, those personally responsible for authorizing this action) that turn over sensitive voter information to other entities. It is almost always about money. When you begin to hit idiots in their pockets, they quite often stop the nonsense. At least it’s worth a try.
