Ron DeSantis, now up stretching, and getting his arm warm…

It turns out that Nazi dinners, calling for the termination of the Constitution, guilty verdicts, and losing Senate elections have consequences. In a new USA Today Poll, Trump’s support is crashing at an astonishing rate. Right, Susan Page?

Republican support for Donald Trump’s presidential bid in 2024 has cratered, an exclusive USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll finds, as the former president is beleaguered by midterm losses and courtroom setbacks.

By 2-1, GOP and GOP-leaning voters now say they want Trump’s policies but a different standard-bearer to carry them. While 31% want the former president to run, 61% prefer some other Republican nominee who would continue the policies Trump has pursued.

They have a name in mind: Two-thirds of Republicans and those inclined to vote Republican want Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to run for president. By double digits, 56% to 33%, they prefer DeSantis over Trump.

Ahh, cute. DeSantis will solve all their problems. They can get all the MAGA insanity in a brilliant, Ivy-League lawyer (Don’t fall for the doofus act, it’s just an act), who doesn’t have any awaiting indictments, might be able to handle an emergency well, won’t constantly be tweeting, isn’t wholly owned by Putin, all that. And Trump will just quietly shake his head and walk away…

Pfffttt.

No, MAGAs, you built him to “own the libs” and burn all of us down. If you turn on him, he will campaign for libs (Which won’t be welcome), run as an independent, and do everything he possibly can to destroy the Republican party as a going concern. Some of us didn’t need a poll and wrote about the GOP turning on Trump and Trump burning the GOP to the ground almost two weeks ago. The GOP may have 25-33% that are okay with outright racism and anti-Semitism, but there’s a hard cap. Ask Doug Mastriano. And, of course, there’s everything else.

So, two-thirds of the GOP will support another candidate? Okay. They can throw Trump overboard if… the powerful party elders can clamp down on “would be” candidates like Pompeo, Cruz, Scott, etc., and just run DeSantis (and maybe Chris Christia as the non-MAGA) so that Trump is buried from the start… I”m sorry. I know you’re giggling. The touring clown show that is the GOP-RNC doesn’t have the discipline. It is unlikely that 12 party elders will meet in a smoke-filled room, calling people like Cruz, telling all of them that they’ll be destroyed if they run. The odds of that happening are about as strong as a kindergarten class coming together on its own to ensure that everyone gets a bite of the two cookies on the plate left on the teacher’s desk as she walks to the office.

Trump wasn’t the overwhelming favorite last time. He was just “good enough” in the first ten races to beat the others, and the same scenario could play out in 2024. The GOP can die on the vine by nominating the one person least likely to win in 2024, and all congressional races will have to bow to Trump, ensuring a fourth loss. Or, they actually can find the discipline, limit it to DeSantis, who polls so far ahead of Trump that Trump gets out of the race entirely, and either just circles the whole sh*tshow with gasoline and runs as an independent, a kill shot.

Congratulations, GOP. You built him because he was so “best” at “owning the libs,” which was a dopamine high that you still cannot put down. Good times, watching our little liberal heads explode. It’s what kept you together. And DeSantis is a “Don’t say Gay” away from owning the libs that much better.

So you want to move on? Perfect. Get ready to be the ones that Trump hates even more than the libs. Turn on him and prepare to spend two years absorbing what he does best. Trump will do all he can to delay criminal proceedings, including accusing others who are no longer loyal while also meticulously destroying DeSantis and every single other Republican who “betrayed him.”

  1. You’re quite right about Trump. I suspect that like me and so many others you’ve believed for years now if he comes to realize he can’t have then he’ll make damned sure no one else can and he will burn it ALL down.

  2. I just have one question. What policies were those? Cruelty? Criminally mishandling a national health emergency? Robbing the country blind? Racism?
Well, more than a dozen or so questions actually!
