Well, I suppose we should look on the bright side here. At least Vladimir Putin hasn’t started talking about precious bodily fluids. Yet. But he is close. The line of “reasoning” is the same, that if you can eliminate those pernicious domestic influences, whether they are fluoridating the water or eating foie gras at their foreign villas, then you will be safe. And Putin wants to be safe. He is obviously very uncomfortable with the way things are.
Like most lunatics, and certainly like General Jack D. Ripper in Dr. Strangelove, Putin has lost sight of what he is actually doing and what it means. He is bombing civilians. Ten Ukrainians were shot and killed while standing in line to buy bread A theater in Mariupol was bombed, killing hundreds more civilians who were using it for shelter. You may have seen the sad post here yesterday, documenting the fact that the pregnant woman whose photograph became iconic, when she was removed from a maternity hospital which was bombed, had died along with her unborn child. It is these kinds of things that are getting Putin labeled a war criminal.
But for now, Putin is oblivious to his own actions and only focused on his imaginary enemies, like every crazy dictator that has come before him.

Self purification sounds ominous. It sounds like a lot of people will be dead and many more hunted down. Putin is a sick man.

The USA has only been a thing since 1776. It was created by the English. They speak English there. So I guess that that means that the Brits can decide to come on over anytime and start bombing our hospitals, killing our civilians, and Candace Owens will defend their right to do so.

Back to the popcorn with butter days … My appreciation for yours and the Murf’s articles in these times of complete chaos in the Ukraine grows by the day … we were exposed to the actual horror of the children’s/mom’s deaths during the video put up by the Ukrainian President, while making a plea to our Congress … rolling a woman’s body into a mass grave, triggered memories of Hitler’s solutions made by his troops … the dead bodies everywhere HAS to STOP!!
I recall reading Kruschev Remembers when it came out. I was in Jr. High as I recall. That was when I first heard of Ukraine, which he of course spoke of in the manner Ukrainians hate – as “the” Ukraine. In other words as part of Russia. I didn’t think much of it at the time but seem to recall maps of the time showing NATO and Warsaw Pact countries and Ukraine was shown as separate from the USSR. Hmmm. Anyway that was fifty fucking years ago. I’d learn more about the country of course, and after reading a book called The Devil’s Alternative by one of my favorite authors – Frederick Forsyth. It would take too long to explain the plot but in short it centers around an Anglicized Ukrainian raised in England after his father, a fierce Ukrainian nationalist fled with the family to their homeland. He leads a band of fellow expat nationalists to assassinate the head of the KGB and provoke an uprising that will bring down the USSR. That got me curious enough to learn some new history which of course was startling to say the least. Russia was settled by Ukrainians who would go on to form THAT country, it’s language and culture which although it bears similarities is distinct from Ukraine’s. Ms. Owen (not that I’m surprised) has thing ass-backwards!
Possibly the reason for those maps showing Ukraine as separate was much the same as maps which showed the 50 states as separate entities (I remember many “world maps” which showed the US as a multi-color patchwork of separate entities; most of these maps also showed the constituent republics of the USSR with the same multi-color patchwork–oddly, these maps would frequently show Canada’s provinces and territories, Australia’s states and territories and the UK’s constituent countries as a single color but the borders of each component were shown with that color).
BUT . . . . at the same time, the UN gave both Ukraine and Belarus their own seats (as *the* Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic and *the* Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic) which further shows Candunce’s history as wrong. Unlike the other post-Soviet states, Ukraine and Belarus simply inherited their Cold War UN membership (as did, of course, Russia); the others–like Estonia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan–only attained UN membership after independence from the Soviet Union. (Incidentally, the UN actually conferred full membership on several other countries which weren’t sovereign nations at the UN’s founding: The Philippines, India and New Zealand.)
Another point that Candunce overlooks is that, if anything, Russia owes ITS existence to Ukraine since the earliest form of “Russia” was Kievan Rus.
What he was unable to do to the Ukrainians, Putin is about to do to other Russians. Or does anyone think it a coincidence that the smart and able Russians have already fled?
