Dogs chase cars. But if they ever actually caught one, could they drive it?   Old saying

I believe that this old bromide above predates my arrival on the planet, but it’s still funny. Because dogs actually do chase cars, but what would they actually do with one if they caught it One of my favorite memories is a movie scene in a movie where Howie Mandel was a rich kid lost in the wild and raised by wolves, only to be rehabilitated to reclaim his fortune. And then he runs down the street pell mell with a pack of dogs, chasing a fire engine.

Well, thanks to the current iteration of the GOP, we finally have a conclusive answer to that question. If a dog catches a car, could he drive it? YES! Right off of the edge of the nearest fucking cliff

Starting with Obama’s inauguration in 2009, the GOP made a conscious decision. They decided to stop even pretending to try to regulate and govern, and instead simply obstruct and frame every issue as a partisan issue to gin up their base. And they went to the old, stale red meat issues that inflamed the passions of that base. And they stuck with it.

It got worse when Trump won the Presidency. Trump’s toxic campaign, along with his own personal piggishness scared away most moderate GOP voters as well as independents. As such, the GOP, having gone all in on Trumpism, was reduced to catering to a smaller, more radical base. And it’s backfiring on them at the worst possible time.

Let’s just look at very recent history. Mike Pence was almost booed off of the stage at what should have been a friendly crowd for speaking a modicum of truth about the January 6thy insurrection. El Pendejo Presidente himself was booed at a totally partisan rally for saying that supporters should get the vaccine. And Trumptard Texas HOP Representative Dan Crenshaw made the mortal error of admitting in a town hall that Biden had actually won the election, and that there was no voter fraud, and got a ration of shit that we haven’t seen since the ACA town halls in 2009.

The GOP has lost control of their howler monkeys. They made a fatal base miscalculation. They were lured by the magic of the Trump base. But they failed to realize one critical thing. The Trump base is totally committed to the Trump experience. They have no political agenda, they have no morals or principles, they are devoted solely to Trump. And here’s a news flash for the GOP. Trump is devoted to nothing but self enrichment and ego fulfillment. As long as crowds show up, he will spout off whatever empty nonsense comes into his head.
Bur moron GOP Governors are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, chasing the Trump base. Florida Governor Ron Deathsantis is fighting a losing battle against mask mandates for Florida schools while Florida children die from Covid.

As we speak, 80% of Texans firmly oppose Governor Greg Abbott’s brain dead constitutional carry law, which allows anybody over the age of 21 with $600 in his poke to strap a Glock 9mm to his hip, with no background check, no criminal check, and not training in the care and use of a weapon. A solid 70% of Texas voters are solidly opposed to his new restrictive abortion ban law.

And something like 13 other states are looking to emulate the Texas abortion law, in direct opposition of the law. Nationwide there is is a solid 60% support for Roe v Wade in its current form. These Governors are all desperate to avoid a 2022 primary from the far right, with no thought of the consequences of the general election. And that may be fatal.

From Arizona to Texas to Georgia, the GOP is rushing to craft and enact new, more restrictive voting laws that make it harder tort black and brown people to vote. But they may be miscalculating on two fronts. First, American minorities have fought, bled, and died to ensure their rights to vote. And if you try to restrict that, you’re only going to piss them off, and ensure a higher turnout in protest. And second, if you is off what you presume to be your solid base voting bloc, like white suburban women and their husbands, they will show up to vote, and without the obstructions you put in front of the minorities. This is going to get interesting.

  1. We had a discussion at my workplace today about the new Texas laws where I work. My workplace does not allow open carry, concealed carry is of course okay, cannot stop that. So the instructions were that we should approach people who are open carrying to conceal their weapon. Who the fuck is going to do that? literally anyone can get a gun now, honestly I am staying on line at my workplace as long as I can.

  2. John 8:42-47. Hey you evangelicals who claim to follow Jesus. Here he responds to the Jews. They claimed he couldn’t talk to them the way he was because “we are the descendants of Abraham”. Jesus goes on to agree with the snowflakes by pointing out they are the descendants of those that killed the prophets. Then, he describes them as he sees them, “children of the devil”, “who was a murderer & a LIAR from the beginning”. He goes on to say, “when he lies, he speaks his native language, for the truth is not in him. He is the father of all lies”. He points out the Jews can’t hear him because they listen & follow their father, the devil. Of course, this didn’t go over well with hypocritical self important jews. So evangelicals, YOU ARE CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL. Happy to clear that up for you using JESUS’ teaching. Ur daddy has ur room in Hell all set up. Be sure to bring ur Trump hat.

  3. IF so many texans disapprove of abbot’s laws there is a remedy for it.

Let’s be very honest here: abbot did not just write up the conceal carry law, the abortion law, etc.-he signed them. Those laws had little helper elves, also known as the Lege in texass, who voted those bills onto his desk for signing. That is very telling to me: sounds like maybe there aren’t as many people disapproving of these laws as one might think given some polls (and why we are even using polls anymore is a mystery given their rampant inaccuracy). You can argue abbot, the Lt. gov, AG, etc. are not supported by a majority of the population but what about those house/senate districts? Are those pols supported by the people they represent? The answer to that will be told over the next few election cycles but if after one or two cycles there are still G.Q.P. majorities in the TX house and senate, I’d say a lot more people approve of those laws than polls suggest.

There are reasons people move to TX and it isn’t for the climate or the cockroaches you know. Like gravitates toward like.
