Joe Biden ran on two things, the promise of bipartisanship, and steering the United States out of the pandemic of Covid-19. Biden came into office with not one but two vaccines that were effective beyond everyone’s dreams, but absolutely no thought out strategy for distribution and administration.

Biden went bold, and he carried the day with flying colors. He laid out a challenge for his own administration, to put 100 million shots in arms in his first 100 days, forcing his team to collect, distribute, and administer shots with no clear infrastructure. And he blew it away. And then he doubled down, 200 million shots in 200 days, and hit the mark again.

And then it all went south. Biden shot for the moon, a 70% vaccine rate by July 4th. He proudly promised that out Independence Day would be more than that, it would be a proclamation of our Independence from Covid-19. And he fell just short, by 1.5%. This was not the devastating thing.

In his confidence and exuberance, Biden exhorted people to get the vaccine because it would be their way back to a normal lifestyle again. Backyard barbecues, concerts, informal gatherings, ball games, all possible for the simple act of getting the vaccine. And Biden overreached.

Yesterday, the CDC came out and recommended that everybody, including fully vaccinated people, go back to wearing masks in high risk Covid areas. And tonight my Governor, Democrat Steve Sisolak of Nevada, tweeted out that he is reviewing the recommendations, and that by Friday may reinstitute the mask mandate for indoor use.

I am angry, I am disillusioned, and I am supremely pissed off! Teri and I followed the rules. We locked down at home. We wore masks. When the vaccines became available, we jumped through hoops to finally manage to get scheduled for our sticks. And all with the promise that we would be able to go back to a normal life again once we were fully vaxxed up.

Now, most likely starting on Friday, I am no longer going to be able to go into a grocery store or casino without a mask on, even though I pose no threat to anyone around me! Not because of anything I did wrong, but because a bunch of far right, brain dead fucktards that see any government incursion as an assault on their personal freedoms. Guess what fucktards? Feel free to die from Covid-19, but don’t expect me to jump through hoops to stop you from doing it.

No, I don’t blame the Biden administration. They are doing what they have to do, taking the hit in order to restore public faith in the institutions of government. But I spent more than 9 years working for one of the premier online retailers, Zappos.com, and our first mantra was to underpromise and overdeliver. The Biden administration needs to learn this lesson, and stop offering sunny solutions that circumstances outside of their control can lay waste to.

  1. It’s because of the many many idjits who won’t get vaxxed and think masks keep you from breathing. They’re the ones getting sick and filling the hospitals, and unfortunately for the rest of us, Delta can infect the vaxxed and masked, and it’s far better at infecting and spreading than the earlier version.
(The vaccines still help, though. Pfizer’s seems to be about 84% effective against Delta. And you’re less likely to end up in the hospital.)

    • I got Pfizer. I read just the other day that a guy who had both Pfizer shots got the Delta variant and was sicker than a dog for a week. And granted, that’s better than the hospital. I’ve had a few killer flus in my time and if all I have to worry about is a miserable week on my back, that’s better than worrying about death. I don’t know how these people who refuse to take this seriously justify it to themselves. I guess it’s not real to them unless somebody they know dies. Maybe it’s that simple.

  2. It’s insane…Florida and Louisiana surpassed their previous peak cases this week. In a world with a free preventative cure, people let themselves get sicker than ever.

It’s time for governments federal, state and local to break out the sticks. Get vaccinated, or pay a steep price.

  3. Agreed! We have bribed, we have cajoled, we have hung carrots in front of these damned fools. Nope! For whatever their reasons, they still refuse. I am NOT referring to those for whom not being vaccinated is a medical issue. I AM referring to those damned fools who WON’T be. It’s time to make it HURT and COST them dearly. We have a Social Contract to take care of one another and not do things to recklessly endanger others. It is far past time for there to be PAINFUL COSTS for breaking that contract.

  4. Yes, we have done everything now mandate the shot. I’ve got most of my family against the shot and I’m really worried. What and who are they listening to is beyond me I taught my kids that knowledge is power what I should have said more about what ignorance is and isn’t

  5. First, get full FDA approval for the vaccines. Second, revive the “War against Covid” rhetoric. I’m not a fan of using warlike terms in discussing a disease, but it may get the Covidiots to take this seriously. Americans traditionally are willing to accept sacrifices when we are fighting an “enemy” that threatens our national security.

  6. Actually, we have been warned from the start that this “novel” virus had potential to defy vaccines because of its ability to morph into different forms rapidly. I do agree with the Biden administration that had people gotten vaccinated as the president sincerely advices and the initial numbers predicted, then the Delta variant probably would not have so easily taken hold, as stats are showing that most of these cases are among the unvaccinated. Also, if the House had shut he Wing Nut caucus up and not allowed them to create a following, and if sponsors of the Swanson TV Dinner hour had simply withdrawn support, the vaccination rate would likely have exceeded the projection. However, the administration followed too long the democrat playbook by being too nice to the traitors for too long. I would have been kicking ass in congress too, not just arresting the rioters, but officially beginning an criminal investigation into every member that voted to overturn the election.
