I can’t imagine that this level of blatant misogyny is going to do Donald Trump any good, and particularly with women. The Navy SEALS approved a change to their mission statement describing their elite corps. Rather than “a common man with an uncommon desire to succeed” the language has been changed to “common citizens” etc. Lou Dobbs was horrified and then Trump jumped right in on the bandwagon.

This is somewhat surprising the month before an election. Usually people are attempting to avoid controversy and not rock the boat. Maybe this is being perceived on that level, as shoring up right-wing support. At least that would explain Trump’s ludicrous reaction.

What’s ridiculous about women serving in the military?
Apparently Trump is committed to his 2016 playbook, despite all evidence that that stopped working some time ago. His much vaunted base has not expanded, it has contracted.

Donald Trump envisions a 1950s America where “n-words” “knew their place” and women were Donna Reed or June Cleaver doing housework and cooking wearing pearls and a “Sunday Best” (church) dress. Oh, and high heels.
I really wish someone would make an ad saying “When Donald Trump talks about the suburbs he means this” with some footage of Mrs. Cleaver or Mrs. Reed in black & white – but what he really means is this: A couple of settings, one in a nice Cleaver style home and one in a more modest and a little shabby home on split screen in black & white with the men both overweight (like me) with the one guy holding a highball and the other holding a can of beer saying “Get your pregnant ass back in the kitchen!”

My wife was laughed out of the local post office back in 1975 when she asked about a job. They told her women would never work at the PO. They had their first women four months later. The year before she quit a job working for the general contractor building the Super Dome because he said she had to sleep with him if she wanted to keep her job. Women today with all the problems they still have have it better than when I was young.
I thought Seals were a bunch of sadistic bastards, but a woman that goes through that training and indoctrination deserves respect.
I’ve actually interacted with more than a few of them, starting back when I was on active duty in the 1980s. Like any group of people some are assholes, some are great people and the bulk are in the middle with both good and not so good personal qualities. I was actually startled at how humble a few of them were, at least back then. Same with my fellow Marines who were in Recon. I’ve found the same to be true of pro athletes I’ve met, as well as politicians up to and including Senators. People who become part of a small, select group that is truly elite in some way start out like everyone else. Some good, some bad and most in the middle with a mix of the two characteristics just like the general population. I’d like to think I’m a good person and I try to be. I’ve had plenty of folks tell me I am but I also know I’ve said and done things that I’ve felt ashamed of and needed to atone for.
People who wind up becoming part of a small, select group that is elite in some way are sometimes changed by the process of becoming part of that group. Some for the better and some for the worse. It’s unfair to paint them all as sadistic bastards. One last point. If someone goes over the line and their fellow operators become aware of it it’s a matter of concern because it means psychologically they have become untethered. That makes them a danger to a given mission and their fellow operators. Loyalty to each other is such they might be willing to cut some slack for someone willing to work with command and even shrinks to get their head screwed back on right but these people are routinely in situations where they literally entrust their lives to others on the same mission. Someone who has gone over the line into sadistic behavior isn’t someone their fellow operators want to serve with. Shape up or get shipped out is something they take pretty damned seriously.
There were women postmasters long before 1975. They should have checked their own history.
Given his abusive well documented history with women, i can’t fathom why they haven’t stormed Mara Lego, & dragged him out for some good old fashioned tar & feathering. I can always hope. oops.
