Rick Wilson and the rest of the Lincoln Project have been saying for some time now that not only is Donald Trump toast, but that his stench is on the elected officials who “bent the knee” and who abandoned the principles of the GOP, held for generations, to join the cult of personality that Trumpism is. Trump is trying to save his own bacon now, and the GOP down ballot, but Wilson sees it all as an exercise in futility, starting with Trump’s attempted “reset” this last week in resuming coronavirus briefings as a solo act, without any experts to offer those pesky, inconvenient scientific opinions. The only trouble is, Trump on his own, is Trump alone with his worst enemy, himself. Daily Beast:

That unbelievable train wreck of a Chris Wallace interview wasn’t what the White House had in mind, and Trump’s pissy performance on Sunday rapidly moved from painful to viral. Instead of a triumph, it ended with the world mocking Trump’s inability to understand just how buffoonish he appeared, even on the ostensibly friendly airwaves of Fox News. Sure, by now Chris Wallace is probably on his way to Gitmo, but not before giving Trump enough space and enough resistance to expose his embarrassing degree of disconnection from reality and whingy dickishness. […]

The obvious power shifts inside the White House and Trump campaign in the past few days are now playing out in his public appearances. He clearly, finally had it beaten into his notoriously thick skull that his juvenile objections to masks were causing enormous political blowback.

That’s why on Tuesday he started the long retcon of his position on masks. Mark my words: The same Trump fanatics who spat on masks as a sign of capitulation to libtard cuck shill Soros antifa mind control last week will bob their slack jaws up and down when Trumps says something to the effect of “I invented the mask. No one had ever heard about masks before me, and when I invented masks, everyone said, ‘Sir. Sir. These masks are a miracle and you’ve saved us all, sir.’”

Now the Tuesday presser was notable for one thing and that was Trump’s well wishing to accused rape ring madam, Ghislaine Maxwell. And as you saw, the Lincoln Project was on top of not only the Chris Wallace interview, from which they made their hilarious attack ad, “Trumpfeld” (whoever would have thought Chris Wallace was the perfect sit com straight guy?) to their blistering two parter, “Maxwell” and “Maxwell2.” But the problem is, that while Trump gets up before the public every day, in either interviews or now White House pressers, to repair damage, he only does more.

Let’s be honest. The White House and campaign staff put him out there because they needed something—anything—to try to reset weeks and weeks of absolutely catastrophic campaign blunderstone-deafness, managerial idiocy, and oppositional defiant disorder no-mask-for-me behavior. The campaign and professional staff are both desperate for any kind of reset not only to save their jobs in November but also to save their sanity. We all know he’s been bouncing off the damn walls since before his Tulsa disaster.

One sobering statistic that Trump cannot deal with at all, is his tanking approval rating within the Republican party. He keeps tweeting “96% approval rating among Republicans. Thank you!” while each week the polls keep dropping in the 80’s. This may be the most alarming stat of all. Wilson says that Trump won’t survive the exodus of Republican voters — nor will his sycophants on the down ballot.

“He can’t afford to lose even 3 percent or 4 percent of the Republican base or he’ll go down this fall … there are a lot of Republicans, and it’s a growing number of Republicans and conservatives and independent-leaning conservatives, who are done. They’ve had enough. They are not going to be a party to this man’s absolute failure and his absolute low — the low characters surrounding him. They’re just done.”

  1. I see history unfolding… “And so the terrified crew of the sinking S.S.GOP re-arranged the deck chairs until, at the last, they resorted to throwing them at the iceberg, aka The Trump Presidency, in hopes it would go away.”

    • “And down the road that leads to Hell,/We strode a merry band,/Sargon, Balthazar, Jezebel,/Cain with his bloody hand.”–Robert E Howard, “The Dust Dance”

  2. Rick Wilson is dead-on in his descriptions and perceptions. Despite the face I disagree with Republican policies, I am glad his message is getting out there.

    • You’re absodadburnlutely correct, but I would add that we do still Need an opposition party (one that agrees compromise is Not a dirty word!) to keep us honest, and to keep us from going too far overboard. Kinda like what the ‘Conservatives’ have done since St. Reagan!

    • If there was any doubt that we need a functional two, or three, party system, it should now be laid to rest! I am fine with a Progressive and a Tea Party as long as we have an American Center Party too. Dems can move left. GOP has moved as far right already as cannot return. But most Americans are moderate or centrist I think. And voters have never been given that as an option in the last 20-40 years. There is a need for a Loyal Opposition, or two, to keep the nuts in check. We now know that does not work in a two-party system when one party abandons all virtue, ethics, honor, honesty, integrity.

  3. Everyone, by now, unless you have been polishing the silverware in Trump’s hideaway in the WH basement, have heard the evidence, seen the results/non-results of Trump’s disconnect clear back to day two of his last term …. every confirming display in Mary’s book shows, that the continuous drivel from the dolt in the WH, IS ALL HE HAS … big actions of stupidity using his sharpy and the other pen that he uses with great flair when showing his freaky signature on portfolios of shame and damage to We The People, standing common sense and the Constitution, not to mention RULE OF LAW on end somewhere out in the hallway …

The corrupt and guilty GOP, for all reasons unknown to most people, have, courtesy of McConnell, been absolutely silent up till now about the pig in the WH and his detached from reality screw ups … along with that, once again, after shutting down everything Obama, these years of non-action on virtually ANY bills from the house Democrats, the turtle has set-back our progress on many things that need cooperation from the Senate … money for our survival from the Virus and recovery from Trump’s cooperation/kiss-ups to the despots of the world and responses to the money laundry system he has been running …

Now, laid open and bare for all to see, his family descriptions of his failures at most everything, his bigger than life photo-ops with everyone over the years, including a running repeat association with Epstein, G.M. and a bevy of nubile young girls there at Mar-o-golf, and on that little island in that HUGE ocean he talks about, holding PR and the VI …

He may not have direct associations with G.M. now, but the fact of his obsession with young girls, will never go away, just his opportunity to play, even though his capabilities may interfere … his confinement in regards to his history with these children and past money hits on the state of NY and the City of NY …

The damage to the younger people/children he snatched at the border was horrid and of course he set his jaw into that cruel sneer and grin only a sadist would enjoy doing that crap … his damage continues in a last ditch effort to sway voters into his lair of despicable non-performance, those fumes he is floating on now will reach one of those sparks or open flames the labels warn us about on gas cans … he IS the gas bag we have come to hate … GOOD LUCK GOP … YOU MADE THIS HAPPEN AND OWN EVERY BIT OF IT !!!

  4. Is this the bottom? Or is this a rising of the scum that has to be pushed back down as far as we can. They will never go away completely. But maybe have less influence and actions in this world?

    • It’s still sinking. Keep an eye on Ohio. While a lot of people on the left were losing their load over “AOC” saying a thing, the most important thing that happened this week was the arrest of Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder’s arrest over his massive bribery scheme to ram through the horrific HB6 last year and prevent a citizen initiative to overturn it. With HB6, which had something to hate for people all along the ideological spectrum, back in the spotlight, Householder probably handed Ohio to Biden. Even Gov. DeWine, who first said that HB6 should not be repealed, changed his tune the next day. This is such a massive scandal it’s going to drive down Republican enthusiasm in a major way in Ohio.

  5. Well the one thing that’s painfully evident is you can’t have one party run the show. If we don’t take anything else from this we should get that. It’s called a democracy for a reason.

    • Yep! And that probably means that the Rules and Regs of Congress — new laws? enforcement mechanisms? — are as important, or moreso, than the platforms of either party. Platforms should be aspirational, foundational, but clearly when there is a Moscow Mitch, or indecent cabinet, in control, there MUST be better guardrails! Those come in law. And Congressional order.
