When the bombshells start dropping, that’s Donald Trump’s cue to go golfing and play on Twitter. Which is exactly what he did Saturday, ignoring the fact that three major media outlets had revealed that Vladimir Putin was paying Afghan militias money to kill American soldiers and Trump knew about it in March and did nothing. While Trump was out playing, Kayleigh McEnany was busy doing damage control. Here’s what she sent to the Washington Examiner:
The White House denied President Trump had been briefed on U.S. intelligence that reportedly determined Russia offered secret bounties to kill U.S. troops.
Kayleigh McEnany, the White House press secretary, issued a statement soon after presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden castigated Trump for allegedly taking no retaliatory action.
“The United States receives thousands of intelligence reports a day, and they are subject to strict scrutiny. While the White House does not routinely comment on alleged intelligence or internal deliberations, the CIA director, national security adviser, and the chief of staff can all confirm that neither the president nor the vice president were briefed on the alleged Russian bounty intelligence,” she said on Saturday.
Oh, man. This is a lose-lose proposition. There are only two possibilities, 1. McEnany is lying, and we expected that, and Gina Haspel, Robert O’Brien and Mark Meadows are lying with her, (Haspel has a lot to lose, so I find it surprising she would go along) or 2. God forbid she’s telling the truth and the White House is so out of control that information of that magnitude didn’t even get through to Trump or Pence. I feel paralyzed trying to figure out which one of these scenarios is actually worse.
According to multiple sources in NYT, WAPO AND the WSJ, trump was informed in March, trump was “given a MENU of possible responses” — trump has thus far opted out of any of those responses.

I stated the obvious above and now reporters on Twitter are saying it.
This raises the obvious and very serious question: The US had intelligence that Russia was paying militants to kill US & allied troops, and officials decided NOT to tell the president or VP about it?

CIA: "OMIGOD! Putin is paying bounties to the Taliban to kill US soldiers! We have to tell the president."
White House: "Sorry, he's watching TV, tweeting and preparing to golf."
CIA: "Oh. I guess we won't tell him about one of the most stunning pieces of intel of all time."

Let’s pretend for a moment this lie is true, that just found out about it today. Does he then call an emergent meeting with the Joint Chiefs, Secretary of Defense, Pompao, CIA, NSA? Nope. He goes golfing. ?

So the Commander in Chief of your nation, and his number two, were not informed about this? I can smell the BS from over the pond in the UK
— Clive Peedell (@cpeedell) June 27, 2020
I’m with the guy in the UK. In the meanwhile, you won’t be shocked to learn that the Kremlin is claiming that it’s “not aware of the accusations.” Maybe not. They’re aware of what happened with the bounties, but they’re not aware that they’re being accused of it. Well, that changes everything, right?
McEnany stressed that the White House did not dispute the “alleged intelligence,” but rather took issue with “the inaccuracy of the New York Times story erroneously suggesting that President Trump was briefed on this matter.” […]
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said the Kremlin had not been made aware of the accusations. “If someone makes them, we’ll respond,” he said.
Here’s where it stands: Trump is siding with Putin, and he’s blaming the “failing” “fake news” New York Times. And the “Amazon” Washington Post and he doesn’t have a slur for the Wall Street Journal, because they’re on his side, usually, at least their editorial board is. But their news division does it’s job whether Trump likes it or not. They broke the Michael Cohen, FBI raid story, after all, and now this.
So all of the main organs of the American press have it wrong, and you need to ignore them and listen to Kayleigh McEnany. Because she’ll tell you the truth, and she’s a far more credible source than NYT, WaPo and WSJ, put together, we are to believe.

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” — George Orwell, 1984
I know that quote is repetitive, but look at who and what we are dealing with, and where we are. Unless you’re 100 years old, you don’t remember national unemployment being as high as it is right now, and unless you’re 120 years old, you don’t remember the last pandemic of the magnitude of COVID-19. And against that backdrop, now we find out that Trump’s buddy Putin authorized a Russian intelligence unit to pay out bounties to members of Afghan militias for killing American soldiers — and the Traitor in Chief would have you believe that maybe it actually happened, but he didn’t know about it? Because the entire intelligence infrastructure of the United States is so totally dysfunctional that such a thing could happen? That is what you are asked to believe.
I would say let’s ready articles of impeachment — again — but why expect a different result from the Senate? Maybe Nancy Pelosi was right in the first place. He’s not worth impeaching, get him at the ballot box. And who knows what Vladimir Putin has done to that? To quote Sherlock Holmes, “these are dark and treacherous waters.”

McAninny said it, so it’s a lie.
Go for articles of impeachment. Toss in the mishandling of Covid response. Followed by the Nov election. I like it.
Add Barr and his corruption, done in part to support Himself.
impeachment might be a ‘waste of time’. But a criminal prosecution for treason, on top of those thousands (?) of other charges after he loses in November ?
That sounds not just possible, but likely.
There was less evidence in the Rosenberg trial.
Indeed, I do believe that’s what the plan is after November. Why waste time and money on impeachment with so few months left? The court of public opinion will convict them long before that.
Kayleigh MAGA-Ninny wouldn’t know the truth if it sat in her lap and called her Barbie-Q.
*smirk*
45 doesn’t read PDB’s. He only wanted them every couple of days and made super simple. His brain couldn’t handle anything else. What if….they didn’t tell him? What if they did and his dementia riddled brain “forgot.” What if they did and he contacted Vlad and said uh oh, they know? Gonna be interesting what the Intelligent Committees come up with. They knew or didn’t know and heads will roll if they weren’t told.
There’s no way Trump wasn’t told. CNN had an interview with a guy who worked in four presidencies, David Gergan, I think is his name — anyway, he said something of that caliber would have been reported immediately. This is just Trump bluffing again, seeing if he can lie his way out. And to this point, he has been lying his way out, so he’s going to see if his luck holds.
As any gambler or sincere devotee of the goddess Lakshmi could tell you, no lucky streak lasts forever.
It’s being reported that it was part of his PDB.
The FIVE phone calls to Vlad in the following weeks say that he got the briefing and heard what they were saying.
Watched him yesterday and Malcolm Nance on AM Joy today. I tear up on this situation. Bounty on our military. 45 demanding West Point cadets come back for his photo op and some of them will be heading to Afghanistan. I hope this is the bottom of how bad it can be. Please. He’s got to go.
McEnemy is going to have a really hard time when this is over. And I’m wondering this: what if the WH was aware about this story coming out as far back as the Tulsa rally? We’ve seen Trump have smaller numbers on a rally than previously before but that walk from Marine One was unusually defeated. Combine the anemic numbers with the knowledge that this was about to break the surface and that behavior suddenly makes even more sense.
And the principal question is: who leaked this one? Or how many Intel and/or military types leaked it? The leaks now look more like the destructive flood from the collapse of a really gigantic dam–which means likely the press office and toadies already knew about this horrific story getting ready to break. Once upon a time I had a Capitol Hill beat and this much I know is true: There are no secrets in DC unless they aren’t worth reporting on. And the more ferocious the denials are the more any reporter worth his or her salt knows there’s truth in “them there” lies.
And if we are to believe he didn’t know then I have oceanfront property in Montana to sell any of us gullible enough to buy into this BS. I’m with Malcolm Nance on this one. He knew. Dammit he knew. He may be uninterested to the point of catatonia, but he knew about this one because I’d lay money on it that someone made him listen to the info lest they be hung out to dry for not making sure he was told. There’s no plausible deniability here.
And I agree: if this isn’t treasonous, then not sure what is? Aid and comfort to our enemy with phone calls and making nice while said enemy is paying out rubles for the “heads” of our soldiers? Glenn Kirshner mentioned in reference to this topic that we have to see the depths of Trump’s depravity in his callous disregard for our military lives.
You mentioned David Gergen either here or in another fine article today–didn’t see that interview but I’d imagine what little hair he has left on his head was on freakin’ fire.

Hooray!!! This is great news in the long run. In order for him to pull off an authoritarian power grab, he would need the loyalty of the military. Things like this wins him squat, if not contempt. Good insurance for the post “election”.
