Ulysses S. Grant said, after the Civil War, “There are but two parties now, traitors and patriots. And I want hereafter to be ranked with the latter, and I trust, the stronger party.” Along comes Donald Trump, some 150 years later, and he sees things just the opposite of General Grant. He just loves the Confederacy, can’t defend it enough.
It has been suggested that we should rename as many as 10 of our Legendary Military Bases, such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Hood in Texas, Fort Benning in Georgia, etc. These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a…

…Our history as the Greatest Nation in the World will not be tampered with. Respect our Military!

Some American heroes may have legitimately been trained at these bases. That’s not the issue. The issue is the non-heroes after who the bases were named in the first place.
Fort Bragg is named after Confederate general and traitorous loser Braxton Bragg. Not only was he a traitor, but he literally sucked ass as a general and lost too many battles to count. The fact that this loser has his name on an army base despite being such a loser is laughable.

In summary, all these piece of shit Confederate Generals are rotting in hell where they belong. Sayonara motherfuckers.

Here's a thread in which Trump declares that he won't stop using the names of traitors who killed American soldiers in the name of slavery before they lost a war against America.

Well, at least we know — again — exactly where Trump stands. And how’s that unity and race relations speech going, anyhow — anybody know?

Somrthing else for Joe to do.
Don’t you love this Dr. Gu’s description of the Confederate “heroes?” What a side splitter.
Yes & No. Yes, his description IS funny, but no, because, Careful Eugene, you are starting to sound a bit too much like trump.
And I’m confused because “Gu” sounds more like Chinese than like Japanese.
Gu is a common enough Chinese surname. Why do you find it confusing?
I think the confusion comes from the fact that “Sayonara” is Japanese, so if “Gu” is Chinese, why does he say “Sayonara”?
Sayonara is indeed Japanese for good-bye, but it has become a pretty common slang for goodbye in English. Gu might only be of Chinese descent. For all I know, he might be a native-born speaker of English.
None of the forts Trump-O named were named before 1921 (Ft. Bragg), 1922 (Ft. Benning) 1942 (Ft. Hood)
……so when he states that “Heroes were trained and deployed from there to win two world wars.” Is yet another lie!!! World War 1 (1914-1918)
*shakes head after being lied to yet again*
Doesn’t it horrify you that you know more about history and government than the sitting POTUS? It did me when I realized that. Seriously, any decently educated person in the country is light years beyond Trump and could do a better job than he’s doing. That is a sobering and terrifying thought, how stupid and uninformed Trump is.
Oh, I had no idea when they were named, but if Trump-O says it, it has to be a lie…..it’s like a rule or something 🙂
It only took two minutes or less to access the info on this crazy new internet’s thingy!!! Add lazy to Trump-O’s list of attributes…..right up there with liar, racist and narcissist.
*smirk*
Lil Blue Sock, it is amazing that tRump’s very large brain hasn’t figured out how to use Google. Same tiny fingers as he uses on Twitter–oh, but he might LEARN something!
Honestly, everyone is starting to use the word “lie” overmuch. It should really be reserved for when intent to deceive is known. In this case,I do not think it is an intentional lie as much as what he figured was a reasonable extrapolation from WW2 to WW1. But to your point, I agree that any assertion Trump makes needs to be checked.
It reassures me, Ursula. It means that we know more than enough to beat him.
For anyone who might defend bases named for those guys, imagine how Americans (and others) would react to Germany having a Ft. Hitler, or Ft. Heydrich, or Ft. Goebbels, etc. Or Japan having a Ft. Tojo, or even Naval Base Yamamoto (who like Lee didn’t think the war he fought was winnable but still fought us), or Italy have a Ft. Mussolini and so on. MAGAt types would freak the fuck out over it.
Every single one of those Confederate generals was a motherfucking traitor with Lee, who was literally offered command of the Union Army and turned it down to fight for the Confederacy at the top of the list. Every time one of these folks who romanticize the confederacy (all conservatives btw) and make their snide ass “get over it” comments about Trump, or Bush 43’s installation in the WH via a unique SCOTUS opinion my replay is always the same to them and I’ve said it to the face of some of them – “Ill get over it when you assholes get over LOSING the Civil War.” Maybe it’s because of my size, but they STFU every time.
Not a bad line, Denis. Myself, when I think on how much the next few years are going to piss those relics off, I flash to this quote from Ghostbusters: “Forget it, Venkman, you had your chance. But you thought it’d be more fun to insult me. Well, now it is my turn, wiseass.”
Though they may have been traitors,I seriously doubt they were having sex with their mothers. And no, all conservative do not romanticize the confederacy. I deal with this sort of stuff against liberals over at the Federalist all the time. I don’t think we should have our own versions of the same thing.
Guarantee you, Dana, that conservatives in my part of the world DO romantize the Confederacy by and large, arguing the old “heritage, not hate” lie. And they tend to be much more vocal and less mature than any of that persuasion who don’t.
I think I would examine Dr. Gu’s tweets very carefully before spreading them. For example, a lot of people died of yellow fever back then. Dying of yellow fever is not dying “like human garbage.” The phrasing i the whole tweet is just too Trumpian.
I thought so, too. As bad as Trump.
It depends on who you were. If you were poor and Irish, you were considered just slightly better than if you were black.
Ditto Italian or Eastern European.
Yes, but so what? I honestly do not see the relevance to my point.
Mississippi is the last state to have the stars and bars on its flag. There is a bi-partisan effort to replace the flag with a flag design called the Stennis Flag. I was not aware of this new effort till I saw a pop-up from a local tv station. The last Democratic governor of Mississippi put the flag up for a vote in 2001 and was beaten by 2 to 1. I read that story and ordered me a new flag.
Here is a link to a story on this.
Here is a link to the Stennis Flag promoters website.

Georgia had the same issue and thought they were being slick by using the First National Confederate flag, the real “stars and bars” and simply removed the stars on the canton and replaced it with the state seal.
As I hear no protests, it looks like slick wins the day.
Tennessee still has holidays honoring some of those POS.
We should just lie and tell agent orange that we will be renaming the bases after him. Seems only fair when he gets away with lying to us all multiple times a day every day. Sounds like the perfect plan actually. Think about it he’ll get to come out of his bunker to claim once again how he’s the greatest resident of all time and as soon as bunker boy goes back into hiding we just go ahead and rename them after real American heroes. I doubt he and his base will even notice the bait n switch. Joking aside I also want to say to you Ursula how much I appreciate your diaries. I’ve been following your work since my lurking days over at kos and have found your way of bringing humor to these dark times uplifting. Thank you and take care.
As an involuntary Southerner who learned to absolutely HATE the whole notion of Dixie, I’m looking forward to being among the last generation that cut those generals a lot of unearned slack.
tRump should talk about patriotism. He’s been committing treason since he took office.
“He was a murderer & liar from the beginning. When he lies he speaks his native language. He is the father of all lies, the truth is not in him”. Matthew chapter 8:verse 42 on. Pretty well sums it up over 2thousand years ago. At least we know what to look for.
