The number of Republicans in Congress, that is. The signs are getting stronger for a Democratic blowout at the midterms. The Republican PACs are pulling money to put into races that used to be safe red seats that they are sweating about. Money is getting pulled from other races and redirected. All the races that are leaning strongly towards Democrats are being abandoned to try and save at least *some* red seats.
Last we knew, Democrats did not have the same amount of funding available that Republicans did, but the coffers of the R’s are running low. They’re not endless, after all. Where we are spending seems to be the most for tight races, like Texas, and tell Mr. Talarico to get well soon. He has the flu, which is not exactly a surprise considering all he’s been doing. But back on the original topic, there hasn’t been nearly the same coverage on what we are actually doing. Texas was an assumption.
Republicans know they are going to take a beating in the midterms this year. They’re just wondering how bad it’s going to be (which means we should think about the same things in 2 years and in 4). R’s are trying to back away from Trump, even Paxton, because Trump is going off his rocker and saying crazy things, and the races are going to be tight anyhow. [Forgive the abbreviations, please; typing out both names has gotten incredibly tedious.] People in Trump’s cabinet, specifically Hegseth, added to the Iran War, are not helping because the economy sucks and they’re trying to pretend it isn’t.
The credit goes to Raw Story for the following quote:
Republicans have moved past accepting they will take a beating in the midterms to wondering whether it will be even worse than predicted, according to Politico, which reports the GOP is in “triage mode” as some candidates appear doomed on Nov. 3. One national Republican strategist, granted anonymity to speak freely, said the GOP could face even worse losses than in President George W. Bush’s second term. “If the bottom continues falling out like it has been,” the operative said, “this will be worse than 2006.” Another national GOP operative put it more simply: “fires everywhere.”
We know that history shows that the midterms are always a blowout for the other party, but this seems to be shaping up to be a more unusual event. More research is indicated. Obama lost 68. That’s the number in my memory. Hmmm. Ran a search for 2006. D’s gained a net of 31 seats in the House, giving them a total of 233. D’s gained a net of 6 seats in the Senate, giving them a narrow majority. An exact number wasn’t provided. We still have a tough row to hoe in the Senate. Flipping *Congress* would be amazing.
We need to do everything we can for our Democrats up to the midterms. Then we’ll have to watch and wait, as will all Americans, to see what happens. *If* history holds, we can do it. It’s looking a little more positive after reading this article. Finally.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
