Yes, the DOJ is actively seeking an indictment of Cassidy Hutchinson.  Ms. Hutchinson was a quite compelling witness in the Jan. 6 Hearings (the real ones) as she was right there with then Chief of Staff Mark Meadows seeing the goings on around Trump pretty up close  and personal. Since her testimony was so damning she’s long been someone Trump wants to “get” and with a DOJ willing to do his bidding he wanted her indicted. Trump (Blanche too) should be careful what he wishes for.

Hutchinson likely worried this day would come as 1)AG Merrick Garland wouldn’t touch, must less swing the axe at Trump until he had no choice, and 2) Trump started playing (successfully) his run out the clock game. In other words she feared he’d escaped justice and run for President again. From the moment the election was called she’s known this day was coming. So did her lawyer.  As Mediaite reports it’s here:

DOJ’s Civil Rights Division brought evidence to a federal grand jury on Tuesday and is expected to present more evidence and additional witnesses later this month, per sources familiar with the plans. Hutchinson has not been subpoenaed to appear before the grand jury, per the sources.

If you recall, last week there was news that both Blanche and Patel’s jobs were on the line if they didn’t produce indictments of certain Trump enemies.  No one thought it would stop with the (failed) attempts to put James Comey and Letitia James on trial.  Even though both cases were tossed out by courts before they got rolling Trump has pressured DOJ to keep at it and try again. AND go after others on his list. To me at least it seemed like a no-brainer that Blanche would, to appease Trump go after Hutchinson before attempting again with Comey and James.  First, she’s not steeped with decades of experience putting together evidence and/or using it to win criminal trials.  Second, both of them have the ability to, albeit still with financial strain hire top legal talent.

Hutchinson has neither. Punching down is something Trump has always liked to do and Hutchinson REALLY made him look as awful as he was and remains. In prime time. That she’s a woman, and not even blonde made him all the more furious. Blanche figures that a court might actually accept an indictment of Hutchinson and get the ball rolling in an actual case.  Trump’s toddler tantrum intellect might demand he being behind bars NOW but Blanche can ‘work’ him, and quell tamp down the impatience with talk of how much Hutchinson’s defense is costing and that she’ll be ruined financially long before she’s convicted.  Being ruined financially is something Trump understands, and he knows Hutchinson will, like others he’s screwed over in his life will face a different, far more painful form of ruin than he ever did.

Mediate’s article contains a link to what The Atlantic’s Sara Fitzpatrick wrote last Friday: Trump wants indictments and people in handcuffs. Headlines. Basically she says Trump doesn’t care how thin pesky things like evidence actually is. He wants the spectacle.  I’d add that many a pundit discussing Trump’s obsession with hauling his enemies into court is about the process, including how much money those he targets will have to spend to fend off bogus charges.  Ok, so in what’s left of Trump’s rotting, delusional mind he often convinces himself that merely pointing out his flaws and wrongs is itself ‘treasonous’ and therefore criminal. However reality sometimes seeps in and if not completely satisfied he can as I noted take pleasure in putting the screws to enemies financially.

Regardless everyone knows Trump hates Hutchinson for telling the truth on him. In case you forgot, he’d even paid for a lawyer for her. Hutchinson insists she’s remained a Republican and believes in her Party (at least what it used to be) but she knew, partly from such close proximity to him that Trump would throw any and everyone under the bus to protect his own fat, worthless butt. She wasn’t comfortable with the legal advice she got from Trump’s lawyer to play the ‘I don’t remember/I can’t recall’ game when she clearly DID remember. So she went out and got her own lawyer, one she knew would be professionally obligated to protect HER interests only, and not work in Trump’s interests.

She’s already given a deposition under oath so first thing her lawyer had her ‘correct the record’ on certain matters under oath. If people give false or misleading information they can, if they do so soon enough testify fully and truthfully and not have their earlier answers become the basis for perjury charges.  Ten bucks says what Blanche (a former SDNY prosecutor) is doing is exploiting that period when Hutchinson recanted earlier testimony taken under oath and corrected the record.  He knows he won’t get a conviction but a trial, especially one on the ‘proverbial courthouse steps’ will make just the kind of headlines Trump wants.  Hutchinson’s lawyer will be forced to respond both in legal filings and on camera himself and rack up unimaginable legal fees and you can be sure Blanche will give Trump estimates on how much Hutchinson is having to spend.

I urge you to read both the linked Mediaite article (it’s short) and also the one in it to The Atlantic’s story (longer but still worth the time) it cites.  I see this happening at this time as another attempt by Trump to distract voters. And shore up morale with his MAGAs, a sort of get them to say ‘Damn! He got screwed with that Democrat investigation so I’m gonna vote Republican to back him and the Party up.’ Will it work? Who knows.  But it’s back in the news again and I’ll bet much to the dismay of Hutchinson’s (then) immediate boss Mark Meadows. He slinked away and is living a quiet life somewhere, but soon his name too will be in the news and not in a flattering way.  Well, that’s another topic for another time.

For now the Trump Circus is opening up a new show under the Big Top.  Cassidy Hutchinson is going to be hauled into the center ring. See it for what it is: A DISTRACTION.  Ignore it and focus these next few weeks on turning out our voters.

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula

  1. Do you think Jack Smith would take her on pro bono? Even though he’s known for being a prosecutor, I’d bet he could defend her, especially after his recent run of the gauntlet. Not that she has a way to reach him and ask him, but damn, would that be good!

This infuriates me! I call you-know-what.
