A midterm convention? This doesn’t seem like a bright idea, especially not in September. It will be less than 2 months before the midterms. If Fat and Orange wanted to have a convention, now would have been a much better time. Then the candidates could still have some time to get out on the road, tell people about their goals, and answer questions. How many people are going to want to come out to this thing? It doesn’t seem to have been advertised in any way, shape, or form. There was the occasional rumor flying around, but nothing concrete.
What’s the point? It’s almost a certainty that they won’t be able to fill all the seats. With the costs of traveling so high now, thanks to Trump’s Forever Iran War, people would likely want to spend their money on something more important, such as groceries and utility bills. Or they just don’t want to bother because they’re sick and tired of Trump. This is going to hurt Republicans.
But yes, they’re planning a convention in Texas. Paxton is already going downhill in the minds of the residents, and there are not that many who approve of him – only enough to squeak by Cornyn in the primary. He’s running from reporters. He won’t answer questions. He tries to talk a good game, but thus far it is only talk. He’s radioactive because he’s Trump’s pick. As mentioned last night, Governor Abbott has his own set of problems. Cruz is Cruz. In terms of the other positions in Texas, not much has come out.
But they think people will come to a Republican convention in Texas at the beginning of September. Who actually had this “bright” idea? Besides the obvious costs of food, hotel, and gas, it’s going to be HOT. Since Texas has its own independent power grid, is it going to hold up to the load, Cancun Cruz? They think this thing is going to help Republicans. Okay, sure, help them run away from Trump because it’s blatantly obvious he is becoming more toxic to himself, his ‘cabinet’, and Republicans. You get what you pay for.
“I do not envy the staffers who will have to tell Trump that they’re not able to fill the arena or have anyone watching at home because they scheduled BOTH NIGHTS of the midterm convention directly against the opening games of the NFL season,” Landry posted on X, showing the schedule for prime-time pro football games on each night. Some Republican strategists are openly skeptical that the event will register with voters at all.
Trump is supposedly a Republican. Therefore, his name is associated with Republicans, and how many of them are going to want to do something when he’s so toxic? Remember, he’s only in favor in three states. Going against the start of the football season is going to make it crash and burn. Sure, some voters may come out if they’re located anywhere close, but it’s not going to be the crowds they expect and want. That leads into more of Trump raging at all hours of the night because he’s “insulted”. He may rage about Canada and Iran because he is “insulted”. Heck, any Democrat who is still breathing may “insult” him, and that’s all of us, not just Congress.
Woohoo. They’re having a Republican convention in Texas in early September. So?
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
