This is scary because Donald Trump has no compunctions about getting a wrecking ball and destroying something, as we saw with the east wing of the White House. Trump’s lawyers contend that the Kennedy Center needs reparations and that minus those adjustments the Center will deterioriate into an unsafe place to be in and potentially have to be torn down.
They said that decisions would then need to be made “on what to build on the site, such as a large outdoor amphitheater overlooking the Potomac River that has been proposed, by some, for many years.”
Monday’s filing comes days after the center’s board, which is stacked with Trump allies, voted again to close the center down for the renovations. Those votes have faced repeated scrutiny in court, with a federal judge stepping in earlier this year to block the closure plans after he determined they were made unlawfully.
In the filing, the lawyers do not say whether such a plan had been discussed by the board at a meeting it held earlier this month. Instead, it was mentioned alongside arguments defending the board’s decision to vote, once again, to add Trump’s name to the front of the center’s facade and in other areas belonging to the center.
And there you have the real crux of the issue. Trump wants his name on the performing center and in that kind of perfect world he wants Melania’s name on the opera house.
US District Judge Casey Cooper is set to hold a hearing on Thursday over a bid by Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty to stop the center from inscribing Trump’s name on its building. The Ohio congresswoman is arguing that such a move would violate federal law and defy a ruling from the judge earlier this year that said the center could not be renamed to honor both Trump and the 35th president.
Trump can’t achieve his goal short of congressional approval and right now there’s a good chance that the House will shift after the midterm elections. So if Trump can’t put his name on the building, then tearing it down is the next best thing.
He’ll do, or use, anything, by fair means or foul, to get what he wants, as he inexorably slides into that coppertone stained, offensive shite hole abyss, of his own making. The midterms could very well be the drawstring that gets pulled and tied on Trumps grab bag of malodorous political muck and egotistical melarky!
