Trump as we know loves to rename things. Usually for himself but if he thinks that might be a stretch then for America. Changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America for example. Now he’s looking at another large body of water and saying it needs to be renamed. The Great Lakes along the U.S./Canada border are so named because they are big-a$$ed lakes. Now that Trump is on the attack again he wants to rename Lake Ontario, no doubt because it’s the only one named for a Canadian city. Michigan Representative Debbie Dingle decided to speak up and her sarcastic suggestion will surely lead to an epic Trump social media explosion.
Trump it must be said truly needs a distraction. His polling continues to tank, he’s got no way to win the war he so stupidly started with Iran, his attempts to convince Americans either a) there isn’t any affordability crisis, or b) that things are tough but it’s our duty to suck it up has voters (even some MAGAs) ticked off and despite his ‘win’ at SCOTUS yesterday he keeps losing legal battles. For damned sure he needs to shore up support with his MAGAs and when he ‘renamed’ the Gulf of Mexico it went over well with them – America First and all that crapola. So now that he’s taken the trade war with Canada to a whole new level, one that will hurt folks in the U.S. Trump figures renaming Lake Ontario will please at least his MAGA base. So, as reported by Mediaite the WH put out a tweet under Trump’s name:
The United States is giving serious consideration to changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America in that we don’t expect to be doing business with Ontario any longer. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP
Sorry, but I can’t copy and paste the actual tweet here but want to note Trump ridiculously has his name at the end in ALL CAPS. Really Donny Boy? Anyway I suppose we should be glad he doesn’t want to name the lake after himself. Yet. I can’t help but wonder if he’s already toying with renaming the entire five lake network the Trump Lakes. Or even the Great Trump Lakes!
Well, as you can imagine there has been reaction on social media. As I noted one response to the initial tweet will make Trump’s head explode. You’re aware of the questions that keep coming up about the nature of his relationship with devoted aide Natalie Harp. Jon Ossoff provoked a helluva response but I think Democratic Rep. Dingell might have just put Ossoff in second place on Trump’s ‘list’ of people to destroy for picking on poor little Natalie. Dingell’s wisecrack was both brutal and funny:

Once again it’s a bad to to be a bottle of ketchup and within Trump’s reach. Ten bucks says he’ll stew on this and tonight during the wee hours of the morning we’ll see an epic online meltdown. Take you bet shot Donnie Boy. Debbie Dingell is more than a match for you and can use this to help other Democrats in Michigan since what goes on with the Great Lakes is an actual important issue to folks there.
