The government is not doing very well in its quest to ruin the ability to vote for everyone and anyone. This is only a little bit of a surprise because it’s happened before. Too bad they don’t learn from their mistakes and give it up. Too bad for them. If they want to waste their time with it, that’s less time thinking about how they can screw the American people. A legal expert made a damning prediction for the Department of Justice amid a losing crusade to access state records. In a recent video posted by Democracy Docket, elections lawyer Marc Elias explained that the DOJ is 0-20 in its effort to sue for access to states‘ voter rolls. He predicted that the DOJ will be stifled in its attempt to gain sweeping access to voters’ private data, including Social Security and driver’s license numbers. “I’ve seen enough,” Elias said. “DOJ is getting humiliated. Ask yourself: when was the last time you ever the courts were with judges appointed by Republicans, and eight were appointed by Donald Trump?
Ha. Well, that’s poetic justice on the DoJ. They’re the Department of Jackasses, well, at least the ones in the news all the time. This was never going to go anywhere because the federal government isn’t in charge of voter rolls. The states handle them. So, with the exception of Fulton County, Georgia, where somehow the FBI got a warrant to snatch them, and that still makes me angry, no one has been able to get the other state voter rolls. But the DoJ keeps trying! They have not won a single case! By this point, they should give up and go home, because it’s highly likely that they’re not going to win anything more.
Elias bluntly predicted, “They aren’t getting the data” they’re seeking, even as the DOJ appeals its losses and has 10 more cases in which a judge could rule in its favor. “Is it possible that in one of those 10 remaining cases a judge goes the other way? I suppose anything’s possible. It’s more likely that some of the judges may just not rule while these cases are up on appeal,” Elias said. “But right now, I don’t see a single one of these cases in which the Trump administration is likely to win.”
Ho, ho, ho. As we were discussing, they’re not going to get them, because the chances are so minuscule that their judges will rule in their favor. They’re wasting time and money, and the judges’ time, and so forth. This is something else that Trump badly wants before the midterms, so he can disenfranchise voters so they can’t vote. It doesn’t feel like he’s going to make enough voters stuck at home. It feels like the blue wave is coming. Interesting, huh. Too bad you can’t count on feelings.
Trump wants the states’ voter roll data to create a national voter database, Elias explained. “Donald Trump wants to create this national voter database,” and as a result, the DOJ is “desperately suing to get this information” and “trying to expedite appeals,” Elias said. However, “They’ve lost in the Sixth Circuit” Court of Appeals, while 16 cases are actively in other appeals courts. No decision has come down in the Trump DOJ’s favor from those appeals courts, though, Elias noted. “None of these cases have progressed to the U.S. Supreme Court,” he added. “There are now more than 270 electoral votes covered by the states that have fought back and won…It kind of makes me smile.”
Smile? Oh, no, it doesn’t just make us smile. It makes us grin. This obsession is all about the fail. They’re already losing in the appeals courts. We want to bet that the appeals will all go the same way. Let’s keep on keeping count. 0 for 20. Trump and Blanche are going to be very frustrated with this. The same thing will keep happening. Wonder when Trump will rocket his little thumbs across the keyboard of his phone in the middle of the night to threaten and whine. Or they might not be telling him. That’s the smarter way to go, even though it will be a nuclear explosion if he does find out. They might be able to CYA and say it’s being appealed. Whatever. They’re trying for something that’s going to fail and fail again.
