Hell hath no fury like a Senator scorned. This is going to be quite the show. Someone is angry with Trump. (It does not surprise us.) There are plans being put into motion that Trump will not like. And Trump can’t threaten him anymore. Get ready to rumble because this may be a big one. With gratitude for Raw Story:
Outgoing Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), defeated in May’s GOP primary by a Trump-endorsed opponent, made clear Friday he plans to use his “newfound political freedom” to extract concessions from the White House – or blow up its plans in the process, Punchbowl News reported Monday. At the top of Cornyn’s list is officially shuttering the Trump administration’s anti-weaponization fund, a taxpayer-funded $1.7 billion fund dedicated to awarding payouts to those who’ve claimed to have been unfairly targeted by the Biden Administration’s Justice Department. Cornyn suggested that President Donald Trump’s nomination of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche could be in jeopardy if the White House doesn’t fold on the fund. “They’re not enthusiastic about it, but if they want to get [Blanche] out of the committee, I think they realize they need to talk to us,” Cornyn said, according to Punchbowl News.
How many of us would be happy to help Senator Cornyn tank that slush fund for once and for all? That thing is being paid for by us so that Trump can give money to J6ers, and that’s just wrong. They don’t deserve a damn thing. Now, the policemen who had to retire because of J6, well, we would be more than happy to see them get that. But this is for the people who were “mistreated” by the Biden administration (read: jailed for their crimes) who don’t deserve that.
Now freed of any threats of being primaried by a Trump-endorsed opponent, Cornyn has already used his “newfound political freedom” to extract concessions, having threatened ambassador nominees last week to secure a commitment for international AIDS relief funding. He also issued a vague threat that he was only getting started in wielding his newfound power under threat of tanking the White House’s plans.
Oh, please sir, go right ahead! Anything he can do, hopefully with others leaving because of Trump, would be delightful! That’s quite a concession he got. Keep it up. It would be a bonus if he could get the rest of the Epstein files released if Blanche really wants to become AG. Blanche is already dealing with a host of DoJ missteps, so adding Epstein into the mix could be quite entertaining. We’d have Blanche stories for days. Yes, we’ve had some of that already. Blanche is the new Elon, providing goofs nearly every day for writing material. And now, back to Senator Cornyn…
“You ain’t seen nothing yet,” Cornyn said, per Punchbowl News. Cornyn joined what The Washington Post called a growing number of GOP “apostates,” Republican lawmakers perfectly poised to undercut the White House’s agenda after having been ousted by Trump-backed opponents. “They now have nothing to lose if they stand up against him,” the Post’s Karen Tumulty previously wrote of the growing list of ousted GOP lawmakers burned by Trump, which includes Cornyn, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).
Ho, ho, ho. Reminds me of the song that has the lyric “you ain’t seen nothing yet”, but the actual name of the song is elusive. With any luck, they’ll work with Democrats at least a little bit against Trump. Senator Cornyn really has nothing to lose, so he can do what he wants. It’s going to be quite something to watch. And it’s going to be interesting to see what he chooses to push back on. Will the whole group of them get together and do something? Will they vote present instead of yes or no? Hopefully they will be able to tank the SAVE Act some more. That thing is unnecessary. We have to keep blocking Trump on it. Now we wait to see what Senator Cornyn does next. It should be fun.

Yep, I thought that whenever Cornyn lost the primary to Paxton and started speaking out, that he has nothing to lose at this point. Besides all of his compadres, some of the rank and file repubs may just silently start going along with them. Wouldn’t that be great.
Cornyn can make Trump’s life hell from now until January next year. It looks like he’s just getting started, too! Hopefully Tillis will partner up with Cornyn and get Trump but good! I’ll bring the popcorn. 😉

Cornyn’s newfound spine is a gift to us all from The Orange One, who decided to show who’s boss by supporting Ken Paxton in the primary. Before this, Cornyn went along with whatever The Boss wanted (almost) all of the time, but now that he’s been rendered a lame duck, with nothing more to lose, he’s making waves. Another example of the ETTD principle.

Paxton is having fund-raising issues. Aw. Talarico is kicking his ass there. And Talarico is ahead in the polls. Aw again, Paxton. Trump made a mistake by endorsing Paxton. I’d love to see him get clobbered when it comes to midterms, but we may not be so lucky, and that is going to be a mess in the Senate. In NO WAY does Paxton belong in Congress.
The Senate GOP population seems to be growing spines, not just Cornyn and Tillis. Too bad they won’t keep them when it comes to Trump. Oh, well.

Yeah, I want that bribe/slush fund tanked but not if the price is Drumpf’s personal attorney, Toad Blank, moving from the committee to a full Senate vote (where he’ll be confirmed with little effort; Drumpf got his incredibly UNQUALIFIED nominee for “Intelligence” Director with all GOPers, even Susan “Concerned” Collins voted for him).
Well, it looks like Blanche’s potential approval for AG has tanked. Couldn’t have happened to a worse(r) guy. His chances are getting worse by the day. I didn’t know it was everyone for the DNI guy.wE CAN’T CATCH A BREAK.
Let’s hope Cornyn and Tillis *do* team up and raise hell. Unfortunately, we don’t seem to be able to get rid of that slush fund and that’s a big, big problem. Watching Blank dance around the issue and refuse to put the end of the slush fund in writing is definitely an add-on problem.
