Hell hath no fury like a Senator scorned. This is going to be quite the show. Someone is angry with Trump. (It does not surprise us.) There are plans being put into motion that Trump will not like. And Trump can’t threaten him anymore. Get ready to rumble because this may be a big one. With gratitude for Raw Story:
Outgoing Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), defeated in May’s GOP primary by a Trump-endorsed opponent, made clear Friday he plans to use his “newfound political freedom” to extract concessions from the White House – or blow up its plans in the process, Punchbowl News reported Monday. At the top of Cornyn’s list is officially shuttering the Trump administration’s anti-weaponization fund, a taxpayer-funded $1.7 billion fund dedicated to awarding payouts to those who’ve claimed to have been unfairly targeted by the Biden Administration’s Justice Department. Cornyn suggested that President Donald Trump’s nomination of Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche could be in jeopardy if the White House doesn’t fold on the fund. “They’re not enthusiastic about it, but if they want to get [Blanche] out of the committee, I think they realize they need to talk to us,” Cornyn said, according to Punchbowl News.
How many of us would be happy to help Senator Cornyn tank that slush fund for once and for all? That thing is being paid for by us so that Trump can give money to J6ers, and that’s just wrong. They don’t deserve a damn thing. Now, the policemen who had to retire because of J6, well, we would be more than happy to see them get that. But this is for the people who were “mistreated” by the Biden administration (read: jailed for their crimes) who don’t deserve that.
Now freed of any threats of being primaried by a Trump-endorsed opponent, Cornyn has already used his “newfound political freedom” to extract concessions, having threatened ambassador nominees last week to secure a commitment for international AIDS relief funding. He also issued a vague threat that he was only getting started in wielding his newfound power under threat of tanking the White House’s plans.
Oh, please sir, go right ahead! Anything he can do, hopefully with others leaving because of Trump, would be delightful! That’s quite a concession he got. Keep it up. It would be a bonus if he could get the rest of the Epstein files released if Blanche really wants to become AG. Blanche is already dealing with a host of DoJ missteps, so adding Epstein into the mix could be quite entertaining. We’d have Blanche stories for days. Yes, we’ve had some of that already. Blanche is the new Elon, providing goofs nearly every day for writing material. And now, back to Senator Cornyn…
“You ain’t seen nothing yet,” Cornyn said, per Punchbowl News. Cornyn joined what The Washington Post called a growing number of GOP “apostates,” Republican lawmakers perfectly poised to undercut the White House’s agenda after having been ousted by Trump-backed opponents. “They now have nothing to lose if they stand up against him,” the Post’s Karen Tumulty previously wrote of the growing list of ousted GOP lawmakers burned by Trump, which includes Cornyn, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Sens. Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).
Ho, ho, ho. Reminds me of the song that has the lyric “you ain’t seen nothing yet”, but the actual name of the song is elusive. With any luck, they’ll work with Democrats at least a little bit against Trump. Senator Cornyn really has nothing to lose, so he can do what he wants. It’s going to be quite something to watch. And it’s going to be interesting to see what he chooses to push back on. Will the whole group of them get together and do something? Will they vote present instead of yes or no? Hopefully they will be able to tank the SAVE Act some more. That thing is unnecessary. We have to keep blocking Trump on it. Now we wait to see what Senator Cornyn does next. It should be fun.
