Or should that be criminally made algae? No matter which, the Reflecting Pool is green again. Trump thinks it was done on purpose. No, it happened quite on its own because the painting and refill were rushed, plus someone didn’t read the directions or have any scientific knowledge. All sorts of circumstances combined to create the Perfect Green. Now, there will be more nepotism, unquoted repainting, and probably even more green until they finally get it right. It could cost about a billion bucks, but they should eventually get it right. Thank you, Raw Story:
Political analysts and observers ridiculed President Donald Trump’s rant on Sunday about the supposedly “criminally made algae” in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Trump has faced significant criticism over the last couple of weeks because of the state of the reflecting pool. The administration undertook a more than $16 million renovation project on the grounds that the pool had never been properly repaired by previous administrations. But the new pool bottom began peeling, and the algae Trump had promised to eliminate returned.
Just repainting something would not help with an algae problem, especially not a darker color. He should have left it alone. But no, multi-million dollar mistake instead. This was rushed in a vain attempt to have it ready for the country’s birthday. Instead, well, *major* FAIL. If nothing else, it isn’t a swimming pool! People don’t get into it. It’s just something to look at and use for reflection.
The president began blaming “vandals” for the pool’s condition. The administration has arrested at least five people for allegedly vandalizing the pool, although none of them have been convicted of committing any crimes. Trump continued blaming the vandals in a new Truth Social rant on Sunday. “The Reflecting Pool is now in full use after suffering great damage from Criminal, Radical Left Vandals, people that truly hate our Country. They cut the lower surface of a very expensive and strong waterproof padding, in the color of American Flag Blue, and put their hands underneath the surface, and ripped it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Yea, yea, yea. It wasn’t done correctly in the first place. Going by the pictures of the workers vacuuming up the algae, no one could have done what Trump is claiming to the pool without being seen. That’s just the start. Also, waterproof padding? It was paint. It needs to be completely redone, which should include replacing the water pipes. And it should have been done before it got so hot. Heh, and listen to me talking when I don’t know anything about how to do that. I’m just guessing, but it would seem to be a logical extrapolation.
Critics of the president reacted to his rant on social media. //// “Our president is insane,” Jennifer Erin Valent, an award-winning author, posted on X. //// “Note: There has been an algae problem in the reflecting pool since it was built. About a century ago,” David Rothkopf, global affairs columnist for The Daily Beast, posted on Bluesky. //// “Another Trump friend getting taxpayer funds. The corruption and swamp continue to grow,” Vince Wilson, a liberal political commentator, posted on X.
Since it’s fairly certain that Trump will never pay the proper amount to get the Reflecting Pool redone *correctly*, perhaps the next president could give it a try. We don’t know what they’re going to do next. It didn’t need to be painted. American Flag Blue, bah. Clean it properly and take off the paint. It isn’t needed. Otherwise, the cycle will continue. Paint peels, algae grows, Trump screams. Tadaa.
See you tomorrow!
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that, of all the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest-working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
