Come July 9 what had been known as Palm Beach International Airport will wholly be renamed both in signage and aviation language (airport identifier codes) as President Donald J. Trump International Airport with the three letter aviation designation changed from PBI to DJT.  FYI that latter part will hit more than Florida and U.S. taxpayers.  Changing those three letters throughout domestic and international aviation will be an expensive hassle for airlines, travel agents and crew charts both physical and in aircraft navigation computers. All because Ron DeSantis wanted to suck up to Trump.

Yep, Ronnie D seems to have not learned oft malfunctioning computers with humanoid appearance flame out as Presidential candidates.  Neither has his Jackie Kennedy wannabe wife Casey.  He will of course need Trump’s endorsement, and what better way than to rename a huge, famous airport for Trump? One that just so happens to be the one Trumpty flies in and out of when visiting Mar A Lago which is a mere five miles away from said airport?  The thing is, it took DeSantis ordering the FloriDUH legislature to pass legislation and THAT required public comment. Now, as The Independent reports due to a Public Records Access request those comments are seeing the light of day.

Let’s just say right now this is NOT the kind of ‘sunshine’ the self-professed Sunshine State’s Governor wants. In fact, with apparently few exception the comments are critical. To put it mildly:

The Florida airport is the latest to be adorned with Trump’s name, joining federal buildings, monuments, savings accounts, passports, gold coins and dollar bills, many of which have sparked legal challenges. Last week the president was dealt a blow, however, when his name was removed from the outside of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Since March, when the plans to rename the airport were unveiled, travelers have bombarded its website comments log, obtained by NOTUS through a Florida Public Records Act request.

Most of the Trump-related comments the airport received between March and mid-May were critical or in opposition to the move, according to the outlet’s analysis of the submissions.

The article makes note of one worrisome comment in which a threat to detonate an explosive device in the airport or on a departing plane. Sick stuff to be sure but the article goes on to note no information has been given on investigation into the threat. I’m assuming it was in fact looked into and deemed not credible which is why it was, like the other (again, almost universally negative) comments covered up.  That’s disturbing, at least to me. Then again it’s not like Trumpty himself has to go through the actual airport, or his plane faces a heightened security threat. No one gets near it including ground crews that hasn’t been investigated up the wazoo!

The linked article also mentions comments from travelers who say they will do all they can to avoid flying to that airport. Dare we hope it’s enough to negatively impact the airport’s traffic and ultimately income?  Money talks and several things are true. First, DeSantis won’t be Governor much longer and as I wrote here on Politizoom earlier today a Democrat might replace him. Second, Trump’s Presidency won’t last forever and given his clearly failing health he might not last long enough to see it end.  Finally, and as noted there is recent precedent for Trump’s name being slapped up on public spaces only to have it ordered taken down.  His shame over his name being ordered removed from The Kennedy Center is so great he’s still got the (so we are told) proper name again.

In other words take a look at the sign in the title pic. That little blue part across the bottom that says formerly Palm Beach International Airport. It’s almost like the the airport authority there anticipates a time in the not so distant future that Trump’s nasty-assed, hateful name will come off the place and it will again carry its traditional name.  Let’s hope they know things we don’t. At least yet.

In the meantime it will cost an estimated $5.5 million bucks to slap Trump’s name on the place. That’s not including what I’m certain will be far more to do all the necessary professional international aviation changes.  Every dollar DeSantis attempted suck up will be wasted, as will the cost of changing things back. Why? Because there isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell, or on a beach anywhere in Florida that Trump will back DeSantis For President 2.0.

Friends, I know everyone begs you for money. I promise, among all those asking for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a group of old, disabled people, except for one writer in his mid-50s. The rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the chance to keep telling the truth about Trump and help ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thank you. Ursula
