Is Trump’s hateful name OFF the Kennedy Center or isn’t it? His people told the court yesterday they’d complied with judge Christopher Cooper’s order to remove Trump’s name from all things Kennedy Center. Have they? “WE the people aren’t allowed to see” and for me that’s a huge freaking problem. Frankly, I’m skeptical and for more than one reason.
I watched the live feed of the workers well past midnight Friday night which was the original deadline. I wrote here on Politizoom yesterday about the agonizingly slow pace at which the work proceeded. They put Trump’s name up using workers in buckets attached to a couple of large cranes. They could have taken the letters down (and much faster – perhaps a half-hour) to remove Trump’s name.
But nooooooooooo! Workers wasted an entire Saturday erecting a giant scaffolding. It was obvious they’d been told to go slowly. Some apologists in the media parroted the administration line that ‘thunderstorms’ made it ‘unsafe’ for the work to proceed. Yes, there were some storms but I have trouble believing lightening was a factor. I kept checking on live feeds of the work and there were always workers on or right next to that scaffolding. They’d have been well away from all that steel if there’d been lightening.
Still FINALLY as it approached midnight Friday they were done with the scaffolding. But THEN they worked (at the same agonizingly slow pace) to hang giant tarps to cover up the entire scaffolding. The work stopped not long after that task had been completed with nobody but the workers knowing if the lettering had been removed. I did see a picture from the side looking like a letter “P” had been taken down but that’s it. It seemed they started(?) from right to left instead of left to right. The point is that shortly after the tarp was up most of the workers were handing out at their flatbed truck taking a break. And other workers were seen coming from behind the tarp and joining them. After a while they started shaking hands and packing up their gear and they LEFT.
So when exactly did the Trump’s name come down? I can see why to protect Trump’s fee-fees (there was a crowd all day and until workers left eager to see the Kennedy Center once again bearing only President Kennedy’s name. I can see how IF the Trump crap had been removed they’d have carried the letters through one of the main entrance doors (that were also covered) and spirited them away to a ‘safe location.’ Trump’s that kind of guy to demand such a thing. However it would be far easier to lower the panels of the tarp than it was to put them in place. Ten minutes at most.
Then again, Trumpty is humiliated and today is after all his birthday. Apparently mother nature gave him a break and their aren’t thunderstorms with lots of lightening that would force a cancellation of the tawdry spectacle of UFC cage matches on the South Lawn. And for damned sure he wouldn’t want TV networks and the internet showing the Kennedy Center no longer was soiled by his name. So he ordered the tarp be left in place.
That’s the working theory and judge Cooper seemed ready to take Team Trump’s word that Trump’s name had come down. Maybe he sent a clerk (with a U.S. Marshal to ensure access) to check. I sure as hell would have. And BEFORE the lawyers were due to make their filing that the work had been done. What he then SHOULD have done was ordered the tarp removed!
It’s by god not right he and perhaps a handful of people can see the Kennedy Center restored to its proper naming but that WE THE PEOPLE can’t!
According to reporting by WTOP News a reporter did get a peek and says Trump’s name is gone even if the tarp remains in place:
It is unclear when the tarp might be removed to reveal the original lettering that had endured for decades: “The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”
A reporter was able to peer through a slight opening in the tarp, which was pulled tightly against the wall, and saw that the letters for Trump’s name were no longer affixed to the building.
Really? I’ve heard pundits repeat the claim. Yet the ‘reporter’ seems to have been whisked off to Witness Protection, or given Trump perhaps to a special isolated room at a private detention facility for immigrants! Who IS this intrepid reporter and what outlet do they work for? Fox? Newsmax? OAN or some ever crazier outfit? Maybe James O’Keefe of Project Veritas infamy. The point is that NO ONE is saying just who is this reporter who says Trump’s name has been removed. Worse, no one at normal news outlets is asking ‘who is this reporter’ much less talking to them. There’s been more than enough time for this ‘reporter’ to have given interviews to credible news outlets.
That’s why I’m demanding to see with my own eyes all the Trump lettering has been removed. There simply wasn’t time between when the tarp was finally blocking everything and the workers leaving for the day. Unless some stayed behind, hidden from view and passed the letters down to be carried away via the front entrance. I kept hoping that someone would fly a small camera drone up to the top of that tarp. Then we’d know for sure.
But we don’t. And those waiting to see the Kennedy Center restored to its proper naming haven’t ‘stormed” the scaffolding and unhooked the tarps, letting them fall to the ground. I can guarantee you if Democrats slapped Obama’s name onto something bearing Trump’s name conservative crazies would have showed up with weapons by now to take that tarp down. And if Obama’s name was still there ripped the letters out!
Frankly I’m more than a little disappointed with judge Cooper. It’s hard to believe he’s so stupid as to think by letting Trump celebrate his birthday without the news and the internet showing his KENNEDY CENTER humiliation for all to see I need some of whatever drugs he’s taken. I’m also disappointed in the plaintiffs that brought the lawsuit to remove Trump’s name not being prepared after that tarp was put up. They SHOULD have had a motion drafted in case the judge was told by Team Trump the work was done. A motion to order the IMMEDIATE removal of the tarp!
You know what? Even if Trump secretly complied and allowed his name to be removed he’s not going to allow that tarp (and scaffolding) taken down unless the judge ORDERS it done. You heard it hear on PZ first!
In the meantime I hope progressive meme makers are hard at work creating a host of memes that will go viral mocking Trump’s ordering that tarp remain in place. And for good measure the mainstream media for not pressing the issue.
