Once again Mike Pence comes out of the shadows to oppose Donald Trump. Good for him, especially in a day and age where Trump has been turning to social media and going ballistics with run on posts, day after day. Pence evidently is not afraid of Trump’s censure. As a matter of fact, if he plays his cards right, Trump’s censure can be worn as a badge of honor.
Former Vice President Mike Pence slams Trump’s proposed $1.8 billion slush fund for Jan. 6 rioters:
“This talk of a weaponization fund, the idea of creating a fund that could compensate people that assaulted police officers and vandalized the Capitol that day is totally… pic.twitter.com/y50IUhy3XT

Once again you have the scenario of a *normal* Republican (think Thom Tillis) reviling the slush fund and it should be reviled and rejected. There is no benefit to paying protesters who attacked Capitol Police officers. It can hardly get weirder than that.
Yet although Pence may be preaching to the choir on some level, the Republicans in office are terrified to oppose Trump, especially after seeing the fate of John Cornyn. That’s where all the rhetoric and common sense falls apart and the fascism begins. Follow Dear Leader or else.
It will be interesting to see how this finally shakes out and who is left standing after this issue is finally decided. We’re going to find out how many sitting Republicans are concerned with appeasing Trump and how many are concerned with their place in history. I am not hopeful. It’s one thing to hear safe Republicans, those not in office, saying the right thing, it’s quite another to see what the actual lapdog lawmakers are going to do. Still, it is nice to hear common decency coming out of the mouth of a Republican on this issue.
