Good grief. There really are idiots out there if you have to explain that way. It seems some people didn’t understand what he was saying and got pissy about it. It’s not that hard, people. Did they not even make it through grade school? Because this is a serious low and a slap in the face to those of us who made it through high school and beyond. Props to Raw Story:
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) was forced to explain what “sarcasm” was on Tuesday following a barrage of attacks from right-wing figures over a remark he’d made about the U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, multiple reports revealed that more than two dozen Iranian vessels bypassed the U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping waterway through which a fifth of the world’s oil trade flows.
In response to the reports, Murphy published a single-word post on social media: “awesome.”
How could that be anything except sarcasm? Really now, kids, learn your English. Even I could tell it was sarcasm, being as I’ve used it. We are Not Happy about the US blockade. Now *both* Trump and Iran are keeping the world hostage. There are ships not associated with us that should be able to pass through, at least! But no. Iran won’t let them through the Strait, and Trump won’t let them past once they get through the Strait. Could someone please educate me about this? Because all I see is a bunch of crap.
The reaction from right-wing figures was swift.
“You should be removed from the Senate,” wrote right-wing figure and self-proclaimed “proud Islamophobe” Laura Loomer. “You are a national security threat.” //// “This piece of s— is rooting for the Muslim terror Mullahs to win,” wrote Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL), another right-wing figure who’s also been scrutinized for making what critics have called Islamophobic remarks. “Treason.”
The right-wing backlash saw a number of other notable figures condemn Murphy, including political commentator Benny Johnson, Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and conservative commentator Batya Ungar-Sargon, among several others.
What garbage they throw. Lawd save me from the stupidity. They really thought he was saying awesome to support Iran. Good grief, all, he’s a Democrat. It seems they’ve not been paying attention. We are quite emphatically against the war. You could also see that as against Iran. Why would we cheer for this event? Good grief. This is ridiculous. But what do we expect from RWNJ’s?
As the backlash stretched into Tuesday morning, Murphy apparently felt compelled to clarify the meaning of his remark. “I can’t believe I need to clarify this but obviously [President Donald] Trump’s bungled mismanagement of this war is not ‘awesome,’” Murphy wrote in a social media post on X.
“As I have said a million times here, it’s a disaster and he should end the war immediately. My tweet was something called ‘sarcasm.’”
Ahaha touche’, sir! Do we want to bet some people might have felt really stupid, no? That doesn’t include Laura Loomer. She’s more than stupid. She’s a fanatic. They really didn’t think about what he had said previously, or they would know it was sarcasm (one hopes). Kudos to Senator Murphy for the smooth and deadly reply. It was beautiful.
See you soon!

‘Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but the highest form of intelligence.’

Or ‘Why sarcasm has to be explained to republicans’.
Ahahahaha I knew you would come up with something! Thank you!
….another example of collective stupidity…
The GOP are “see Spot run” people!!
…or see Spot dick Jane.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA this made me LOL! Seriously!
It seems so. These people are in our government? No wonder we have so much trouble. Add in Trump and it’s even worse.
It would have been more clear if he had added ‘/s’ after the word. It’s a tone indicator, marking the previous text as sarcasm. Google ‘tone indicators’. Wikipedia has the best explanation. Ignorance is no excuse and it’s rampant.
Excuse me but I know about those. It wasn’t relevant at the time. And agreed, ignorance is no excuse. Just because I understood it was sarcasm when I first read it, doesn’t mean everyone else did. It was so *obvious*.
