Russia has always been the smoking gun. This became apparent in 2016 with “Russia, if you’re listening,” then the lid blew off Facebook, where Russian bots masquereded as the neighbors, all the while Trump was entertaining Russians in the Oval Office and firing the head of the FBI. Today’s contribution to Trump/Russian lore is another doozy.

The Hill reports that

At the start of the [cabinet] meeting, Trump referenced reports of negotiations with Iran. He sought to clarify that Iran, not the U.S., is “begging” for a deal. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon “would continue negotiating with bombs.”

Trump fired off several Truth Social posts Thursday morning, calling multiple times for an end to the filibuster, warning Iranian leaders that they “better get serious soon, before it is too late” in negotiations and trashing NATO for its lack of help against Iran. Iran’s leaders have been defiant in social media posts this week.

As the Iranian campaign nears its one-month mark, lawmakers from both parties are complaining about a lack of information from the administration regarding Operation Epic Fury.

Meanwhile, Miles Taylor says that officials around the president in his second term are afraid to challenge his belief that the military operation against Iran is a “complete success.”

So we have the real war in Iran, which could drag on interminably, and then we have the pretend war, which is Trump’s sycophants telling him what he wants to hear. We are in dark and treacherous waters, as Sherlock Holmes used to put it.

  1. Drumpf fired off a post “trashing NATO for its lack of help against Iran.”

Well, maybe Dum-Dum needs someone slightly more intelligent (say a 2-year old) to explain to him that NATO is under *NO* obligation to help HIM in the war HE started. NATO’s obligations are when a member state comes under attack–not when a member state starts an illegal war over nothing but a fat ass’s overblown ego (and an attempt to distract people from the Epstein files).
When Russia invaded Ukraine, the members of NATO (including the US at the time–when we had a President who understood that Putin wants to restore the USSR/Russian Empire by any means necessary) chose to stand behind Ukraine because they understood Putin’s motives and felt compelled to stop Putin. Then Drumpf got back into office and decided to undermine everything we’d been doing for Ukraine–while also attacking NATO members for “not paying their share” (like Drumpf knows what that even means given his own history of stiffing companies that did work for him or sold him stuff–not to mention his decade of STILL not releasing his tax return, something he PROMISED to do after he was elected in 2016). And now, Drumpf really thinks that NATO “owes” the US something?
