It is not safe to be on the streets of Minneapolis these days. A second fatal shooting by ICE has taken place, of a 51-year-old man, apparently gunned down while he lay on the ground. This is less than two weeks after the fatal shooting of Renee Good. There is a dispute whether the man was armed or unarmed, and an administration official says that a gun was recovered at the scene. Axios:
A man was shot and killed in a confrontation with federal agents in South Minneapolis on Saturday morning, per state and local officials and witness video from the scene.
What we know: Video taken from a nearby business appears to show about a half-dozen agents tackling a person to the ground, before at least one shot rings out.
- At least one agent then appears to fire multiple shots toward the man as he lies on the ground.
- Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed to the Star Tribune that the man died. Hospital records confirming the death, obtained by the Associated Press, indicate that he was 51.
The big picture: The shooting will likely further inflame tensions over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in the Twin Cities.
- Gov. Tim Walz said he had spoken to the White House about what he called another “sickening” shooting.
- “The President must end this operation,” he wrote. “Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”
What they’re saying: The city of Minneapolis said on X that officials are “aware of reports of another shooting involving federal law enforcement in the area of 26th Street W and Nicollet Ave.”
- They asked that the public remain calm and “avoid the immediate area.”
- O’Hara told the Star Tribune that ICE tried to order local police away, but that he refused and told his officers to preserve the scene.
- Multiple reports indicated the use of tear gas at the scene, as protesters lingered after the shooting.
ICE is armed and ICE is trigger happy, that much is clear. As to the threat the decedent posed, that has not yet been ascertained. The first step will be to find out if he actually owned the gun that was supposedly found at the scene — or if he was gunned down in cold blood.

This is my home here, in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Why is Trump doing this to peaceful protesters? Why does ICE get to conduct unlawful raids on our citizens by untrained and trigger-happy thugs because the President has decided he doesn’t like our governor? This isn’t America. What have we become? If you voted for Trump and now regret it, speak out now. If you voted for trump and DON’T regret it, please, please, please get your head on straight and learn the facts. We did not ask for ICE to come here. tRump and Kristi “ICE Barbie” Noem sent them here to exact vengeance on private citizens including Renae Good, two- and five-year old children, a man blinded and now another citizen dead. This cannot continue. This is not who we are in America!
What Walz is doing is feeing 47’s ego and narcissism. Walz NEEDS 47 to do something. Now….what is Walz going to give 47 to get it done.
Governor Walz wil not be intimidated by tRump’s illegal use of force against our citizens. He. Will. Not. Back. Down!!!!
Does a state not have any recourse to protect its citizens? ICE is a rogue terror squad, masked and armed, with no legal right to detain law-abiding citizens, let alone attack and even kill them. Can the National Guard be employed to protect people, to clear the streets of gangs of federal thugs? If not, the time is about right for citizens to begin shooting back, which will give Trump his excuse for invoking the Insurrection Act, his purpose all along.
It’s been tRump’s goal all along.
