This makes complete sense insofar as Greenland is now off Trump’s radar. Now we find ourselves back to Trump harassing our good neighbor to the north and our staunchest ally. It is unbelievable to most Americans and Canadians as well that US/Canada relations have deteriorated to this point but Trump will not stop poking this particular bear. This latest will not be received well.
Unfortunately right now we have to rely on either the Supreme Court or spineless Republicans in Congress to end this shit.
This also proves to every country that whatever “deal” you make with Trump is utterly worthless. pic.twitter.com/hV477Sxgus

Yes, Trump has forgotten that the Canadians can literally shut off the lights in a lot of the US, (or he simply doesn’t know) just like he either forgot or didn’t know that Europe could start selling off our bonds and plunge us into economic chaos if we didn’t back away from all the Greenland invasion threats.
So evidently nobody in the White House advises Trump before he posts on Truth Social. Either that, or they do and he just proceeds anyway.
Good luck to our northern states, particularly the blue ones. They not only are being harassed by ICE (including Maine, which has fewer migrants than any other state) but the Canadians may soon call Trump’s bluff and start shutting off the lights.
Trump has not the faintest clue about diplomacy. He thinks that boorishness is strength and it’s not. It’s inferiority but nobody can convince him of that. That was the mistake all throughout Trump 1.0, expecting that at any moment Trump would “become presidential.”
At least now we don’t even wait for it. We know that things are as good as they’re going to get and that it’s only a question now of how much worse things get. That is the “greatness” of Trump.

I think the Supreme Court is going to take his tariff club away, but even if it doesn’t trump’s threat won’t hurt Canada as much as he thinks it will. The country is rapidly realigning its supply chains away from the US and is rebuilding its manufacturing base. New Korean and potentially Chinese auto plants will be built in Canada, and the rapidly expanding defence and aerospace industries will absorb more. I don’t think Hydro Quebec will throw the switch to cut off power to the US Northeast, but those tariffs will drive up electricity costs for US consumers, who are already seeing big jumps in their utility bills due to new demand from data centers and EVs. Canada is a technologically advanced country with a well-educated population and stable political system. We embrace immigrants from all over the world and we see diversity as an opportunity, not a threat. The world outside of MAGA USA seems to agree.
Of course, beyond the control of any one person, there could occur a ‘glitch’ that results in an ‘accidental’ cutting of power to The USA, and it might take a while to ‘rectify’ the problem. Enough time to underline how essential it is?
So he’s back to “Governor” Carney, as if such schoolyard insults will bring both the Prime Minister and Canada to their knees. Canada was the first NATO country to truly understand and accept the fact that Trumpland USA is nobody’s ally except Russia now. Given that unpleasant reality, of course Canada will forge alliances with other powerful nations, such as China, which recognise that the world economy runs best, for everyone’s benefit, when nations co-operate. China won’t “eat” Canada but they’ll share a table to conduct civilised business.
