I turned on the TV a while ago and couldn’t believe this new proposal from the Trump administration. They have a proposal in the works to require anyone from another country to submit their past five years of social media data (and more data) before being allowed entry. It seems this would apply even to people from countries currently part of the Visa Waiver Program. Funny how they waited until AFTER last Friday’s bigly World Cup Draw ceremony and the head of FIFA giving Trump the very first (probably last) FIFA Peace Prize!

It’s only the biggest sporting event in the world. Soccer as we call it here is the world’s favorite sport and every four years people from around the world spend big bucks to travel to the country hosting the event. And tons more money while they’re there. Given Trump’s attitudes about immigration and foreigners in general, and ICE running around grabbing people off the streets there was already a problem. Now, ANYONE wanting to come just to watch the matches will have to first turn over five years of social media history?  Or anyone else traveling to the U.S. for any reason? Tourism to our country is already way down and call me crazy but I don’t think this will get the numbers, including and especially the money generated back up.

However as you can read in this article from The Hill Team Trump is dead serious about this.  To reiterate, Customs and Border Protection (CPB) proposed a rule yesterday that would require foreign tourists to the U.S. to disclose the past five years of their social media activity:

“In order to comply with the January 2025 Executive Order 14161 (Protecting the United States From Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats), CBP is adding social media as a mandatory data element for an [Electronic System for Travel Authorization] ESTA application,” the federal register announcement reads.

“The data element will require applicants to provive their social media from the last five years”, it continues

  1. So, visitors have to provide 5 years’ worth of social media, um, what exactly? All the video content they may have watched and/or created for YouTube and TikTok and Instagram? All the posts and likes/follows from Twitter and Facebook and Drumpf’s very own Bullsh!t AntiSocial?

And who’s going to be reviewing all this information and when is it supposed to be “provided?” And I can just imagine all these foreign visitors who post content in languages other than English.

    • You’re correct of course it’s an impossible task to sort through all that which is the point. It gives cover for “reasons” as to why people will be denied entry. And sets up a nice black market for buying entry. More grift for Trump.
