“The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” George Orwell, 1984.

Isn’t *that* truth? Trump. Trump’s cabinet, Republicans, all telling us that what we are seeing and what we are feeling isn’t real. The economy is splendid. Inflation is going down. Gas prices are going down. Hooey. From The New Republic via AlterNet:

President Donald Trump did not take kindly to the critique of a financial guru roasting his economy on Fox News. The New Republic reports that Trump’s cherished Fox & Friends show on Saturday hosted Peter Schiff, a stockbroker and financial commentator who took Trump to task over the economy that is putting Republicans on edge and threatening their grip on the House and Senate in the 2026 midterms. Schiff criticized Trump for failing to acknowledge the nation’s mounting inflation, job losses, and affordability issues.

Someone finally said the quiet part out loud, someone with experience who has earned respect, someone who most definitely knows what they are talking about. And Mr. Schiff is not about to bow to Trump’s infantile demands and retract something he knows is true.  Of course, Trump won’t listen to the truth. He’ll continue to bitch and whine and attempt to cover up the cowflops.

Furious, Trump took to Truth Social that same morning, calling Schiff a “Trump-hating loser” and dragging show producers for arranging Schiff to be on the show. “Either the show made a mistake, or it is heading in a different direction,” Trump wrote, and he urged staff to look into “the ‘booker’ who put this jerk on!” Trump railed at Schiff for claiming prices are going up “when, in fact, they are coming substantially down,” in spite of surveys showing Americans are still furious at high prices for groceries and goods.

The truth hurts, doesn’t it, Donnie? But admitting the truth would mean he needs to fix it, and he doesn’t want to have to actually work. Even his cult is unhappy. And although I may harp on this a bit, the world sees what is happening. Fewer and fewer countries want to have anything to do with the US. Well, except for Israel and Saudi Arabia, and Russia. We kowtow to them while people are suffering in Gaza and Ukraine. Saudis, well, they know how Trump likes his bread buttered. Trump ignores the truth of what they have done, starting back in time with Jamal Khashoggi.

Schiff, noting Trump’s Truth Social meltdown, responded in kind on X, saying “Biden had a lot of help in causing the ‘affordability crisis,’ including from Trump during his first term, and he’s not fixing it, he’s making it worse.” “Given how much Trump hates the truth, I think he should change the name of his social media platform to Lie Social,” Schiff added in a follow-up post.

Hence, the title of this column. It’s all lies from him. We keep thinking there has to be a way to get something done about all of this, but it would start with Trump admitting the truth, and he’s *never* going to do that. He’s melting down, his “cabinet” is melting down, and the US is melting down. At this point, none of us can afford to move away anymore, even as much as we want to. We’re barely surviving. I have to pin my hopes on the blue wave continuing in November of 2026. There isn’t much else left.

Friends, I hate to bother you for money at Christmas time, but the reality is that 2025 has been the worst year we’ve had since we were a fledgling site back in 2018 — 2020. We’ve done everything we can, and we can’t fight the fact that half of the electorate is tuned out and depressed after the 2024 election went south.

The irony is that if you’re reading this at all, you’re not the population we’re trying to reach. We’re trying to get the people who used to come here religiously to return and engage with us. In the meantime, we have operating costs and overhead, like any business. If you’re able to help, we need it. If you have already contributed, thank you. Ursula
