This is a sad, sad day indeed. America is siding with Vladimir Putin. You knew that Donald Trump was and so logically his Secretary of State would follow his lead. But it was devoutly hoped that Marco Rubio as the “seasoned pro” of this misadministration from Hell would end up having a bit more dignity, be a bit more American in his views, follow the lead of the Republican party of yore. If you hoped that, color those hopes dashed. Rubio has proven to be as craven and venal as you would have thought him to be in his worst moments. Here’s his cop out.

What’s complex about the invader leaving? It really is that simple. Russia just packs up its tents and goes back to Russia.
The only “peace plan” that makes sense is the one from Sanna Marin, Finland’s former Prime Minister:
“The way out of the conflict is for Russia to leave Ukraine. That is the way out of the conflict.”

The way out of the conflict is not the least bit “complex.” It is extraordinarily simple. Yet will America back the autocratic invader of Ukraine and so far it looks like yes, absolutely, is the answer to that question.
Plus, Rubio’s a liar (or an idiot) on top of it all. Rubio said that the peace plan was “authored” by the U.S. Not in the least. It was TRANSLATED by the United States. It was authored by Russia.

So now Rubio is trying to gaslight Americans? Sure looks like it. Either that or he is more lost than any other Secretary of State that we’ve ever had. And I can’t imagine that to be true. Rubio’s just willing to sell out our ally to Vladimir Putin.
Rubio has aspirations to be the next vice president and after that to take a shot at the presidency. At least, in a normal world, which this is not, that’s the career trajectory that Rubio sees in his future. I cannot see where he believes that this won’t boomerang on him. There are too many old school Republicans who do not believe in this course of action. Piggybacking Trump and Vance in their anti-Ukraine theatrics is not going to do Rubio any good in the long haul. Plus, here’s another question: What happens when Russia invades again — granting for the sake of argument that Putin is bought off this time at this cost to Ukraine?
Finland’s right next to Russia. They know who they’re dealing with. And Putin will never stop. This “peace proposal” is a farce. And the greater farce, the greater tragedy, is that America is going to go along with it, to our eternal shame.
Shame on Marco Rubio for being Putin’s shill. If there’s any justice in life, this will finish the man in politics. That said, don’t hold your breath. But what it will do is color the perception of Rubio with the rest of the world and that perception will dog him the rest of whatever is left in his career in politics.
This is Rubio’s ETTD moment. I wonder if he realizes it? Apparently not.
It’s shame, because of all of trump’s cabinet, he was the only one who had a shred of competence and respectability. He’s cast his lot with the devil and will suffer the consequences.
the consequences may be not just the end of his political carreer. when he leaves office there may not be any law firms willing to employ him.
