There are times when I simply marvel at the *mindset* or lack of same of J.D. Vance. We know full well what a hypocrite and a phony he is. He used to think straight, back in the day when he called Donald Trump “America’s Hitler.” J.D. may never have been much of an intellectual trailblazer but he at least had the decency to state the obvious. Then he decided that the shortcut to money and power was in kissing Trump’s ring (and we’ll not even mention other parts of his anatomy) and so he became the sycophant that you see daily on Fox News. But this really is a descent several notches down.

The meltdown of human decency in this country is not going unnoticed by the rest of the world. The lack of civility and respect for our most venerated institutions is not some joke to the rest of the sane people on this planet. This is worrisome. And I don’t believe for a minute that I’m pearl clutching or having the vapors because I lack a sense of humor. The lack here is not mine. The lack is J.D. Vance’s and MAGA’s sense of human decency and dignity, and respect for American conventions and norms. This is not America First, this is anti-American and pro-fascist.
There is nothing funny about this. This is trite, trashy, flashy, and vulgar — just like Donald Trump. Those are his salient — and only — qualities. The characteristics that a president needs: dignity, grace, decency, proportion, literacy, compassion, empathy, are all lacking in Trump. And since they’re lacking in the standard bearer of the Repubican party, they’re lacking in the entire party itself. Adolescent shock humor is all that is left and it’s trying to pass for wit. And failiing miserably. And I would respectfully remind you that Vance put this spectacle together just 72 hours after informing us that 30-something-year-old Republican leaders who “love Hitler” as “just kids.”
The GOP looks terrible. And if Vance thinks for one nanosecond that Ronald Reagan or Richard Nixon or Dwight Eisenhower would find any of this comical, he is delusional. Maybe he should just call George W. Bush and ask him his opinion — if Dubya will even take his call.
The Republican party has self-immolated. Now they’re hell bent on torching the Shining City On the Hill and turning it into rubble. We are no longer the envy of the world. The peoples of the world shake their heads with pity, and that’s when they’re not washing their hands of us with disgust. As Madeleine Dean said to Mike Johnson a few weeks ago, “Our allies are looking elsewhere and our enemies are laughing at us.” What allies will even be left when all this is over? Who wants to team up with a country run by mentalities such as this?
There will be an end to Trump one way or the other, either by Mother Nature or he will voluntarily leave the White House according to the Constitution when his term is up.
And bear in mind, Vance intends to be Trump’s successor. Is this what we want America to stay? Is this who we want to be? I’m going to paraphrase Patrick Henry; going forward into a post-Trump world, give me dignity or give me death.

I’m grateful that Trump is as old and in the kind of poor condition that he’s in. If he was 50 I would be worried that he would do a coup d’etat for real, not just the riot at the Capitol but simply take over one night. And he COULD try that, still. I put nothing past him. But he is the charismatic cult leader and he’s flat out not going to live another 30 or 40 years and if he was 50, we might be looking at that.
I think we are at a time in our history where some people would be just fine with Trump being “king” and ruling until death. What they don’t take into account is the moral of the Leopards Eating Faces party — that at some point the leopards are going to eat YOUR face.

I heard Ralph Nader, a longtime political activist, on the radio today. He said his sources told him that Trump’s cabinet picks were confirmed because the GOP hold-outs in the Senate had received threats of violence against themselves and family members if they didn’t vote to confirm.
Lisa Murkowski (AK) had vaguely alluded to this, but no one in the GOP has had the courage to speak about it openly.
IOW, Trump is intimidating his own party like a mob boss. If his successor(whoever that may be) follows the same pattern, we’re in very dangerous territory.
Unfortunately we will still have the majority and criminal faction of the Supreme Court! Even if 2 or 3 of the worst decide to step down they will choose to do so while Trump is still in the presidency. So he will be able to again stack the court with the same evil minded people willing to bow to him and other Republicans and billionaires. We’re phucked!
