Even if you don’t want to read this entire article I beg you: PLEASE at least scroll down to the clip of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize recipient getting a phone call from the Director of the Nobel Institute she was being honored, and when she humbly said she didn’t deserve the credit him explaining why she DID. I promise it’s worth your time and it will inspire you.
Trump’s decades long, sick obsession to screw his oldest daughter got replaced by another obsession – winning a Nobel Peace Prize. That Obama has one and he doesn’t just eats him alive. He has shamelessly personally campaigned for the honor which is not at all a way to impress the folks who decide who is worthy. Try as he might Trump can’t bully them. This year’s winner has just been announced and Trump will go batsh*t insane over two things. He is NOT this year’s winner. And a WOMAN from VENEZEULA is. It’s easy to imagine that to ‘avenge his horror honor’ orders have no doubt been issued to Seal Team 6 and Delta Force to exact retribution. However Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado is worthy of the honor far more than Trump is, or ever will be.
When I woke up early this morning and started to scan the news I wonder if someone got tipped off and slipped Trump some magic pills from Ronny Jackson to give Team Trump time to figure out how to keep him calm enough not to have a stroke. Then to not nuke Norway. THEN to prevent him from sending out the aforementioned special ops folks from carrying out a campaign of assassinations. Against Machado of course, but also the committee members who chose her for the honor and anyone else at the Nobel Institute. Hell, if I were Obama I’d be awfully leery of any new agents appearing in HIS Secret Service detail. Thanks to SCOTUS Trump can write an Executive Order stating the “disrespect” weakens U.S. stature in the world and threatens our national security, making crazy orders an ‘Official Act’ and rendering him blameless under the law.
However, as we can see from Newsweek’s coverage this morning Team Trump and Trump himself have had little to say. That won’t last I’m sure. The countdown to meltdown is underway and who knows? It could be on the level of an implosion that makes a nuclear explosion possible! For now he’s not appeared on camera, much less faced any questions from reporters. But he will (unless he strokes out and winds up at Walter Reed) so keep an eye out today.
But first let’s take a moment and absorb something good. Ms. Machado was the leader of the opposition to Maduro’s rule in Venezuela and he got her kicked off the ballot. He knew he’d lose to her and so convincingly he’d be unable to hold onto power. Although his government declared him the winner over Machado’s replacement and he got a third six-year term it’s widely believed the result was bogus. The guy fled to Spain. Machado stayed at the risk of her own life. She’s continued the fight and inspired people around the globe with her courage. Trump on the other hand has never risked anything for anyone other than himself.
So yes, Machado efforts to bring about a peaceful and just transition of power to a democratic form of government and at great personal risk makes her worthy of the honor. Rather than write about why she got the award, and her humbleness in pointing out how it has been the support of others who have devoted themselves to the cause she has led I’ll let you see/hear it for yourself. I came to tears listing to the phone call she got in what for her was the middle of the night telling her she was being awarded this year’s Peace Prize:
“Oh my god… I have no words.”
Listen to the emotional moment this year’s laureate Maria Corina Machado finds out she has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

I mentioned I was moved to tears watching that. Yes, he kept smiling during what for him was a delightful moment but I swear Kristian Berg Harpviken, Director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute was blinking back tears of his own during that conversation. I’m sure he feels blessed to have the honor of being the one to make that kind of call, and I’m equally sure he knew what Machado’s reaction would be. He knows how much most recipients of this award have been humbled by being selected. They don’t sit back and retire from trying to make the world a better place. They use their new platform to push for positive change. Increase their efforts. Hell, I can’t help but think of MLK who donated the prize money (and for him, as with many recipients it was a life changing amount) to the cause!
I’m also equally sure part of him was relieved he didn’t have to make that call to Trump, who’s reaction would have been WAY different. I shudder to think of the crass lack of class Trump would have displayed. HIS reaction would have been along the lines of ‘I should have gotten this years ago. I SHOULD be the only person who’s gotten this news multiple times! I deserve it and it’s long overdue. All of you should be ashamed, even prosecuted for not already giving me a Nobel Prize!” That would be the highlight and it would get worse from there!
Yes Trump thinks, he really does that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. Several of them in fact. The announcement of a deal to address the war in Gaza no doubt had Trump thinking his time had come. As many of us suspected the deliberations concluded last week and the decision was made before the bigly announcement. Regarding that I hope, I truly do that for whatever reason be it pressure from Trump (fat chance, Trump doesn’t give two sh*ts about Gaza or a peace deal between Israel and Palestinians there be they in Gaza or the West Bank). Or other world leaders at the U.N. General Assembly collectively getting through to him he’d blown whatever moral authority Israel once could wave at the world while practicing apartheid and genocide.
Regardless while Trump told American families their loved ones, whether still living hostages or the bodies of those who were dead were coming home Monday (as in a few days from now) it’s still not certain that will actually happen. Netanyahu convinced his War Cabinet to sign off on the twenty-point cease fire plan and Hamas also seems to be willing to go along so that whatever is left can save their own despicable asses. But let’s be clear. It’s a cease fire that will hold only if all hostages and bodies are handed over, Israel allows the massive amount of aid that’s needed to be distributed in Gaza and Israeli Forces withdrawn and STAY out of the place.
The cold, hard fact that’s always existed in not just Israel but other places (remember northern Ireland?) is that there are people on both sides invested in the conflict contituion. The conflict itself makes them important and if it’s not there there’s plenty of folks who might decide it’s time to make them pay for having fomented it. I think back several decades ago to the Oslo agreement and the hope we had. It all fell apart and guess who was a key part of the Israel faction (Arafat and the PLO are also culpable) that blew up the agreement? A rising star in the Likud Party named Benjamin Netanyahu!
So yes, I hope and I really do mean it that this cease fire/hostage release/aid/IDF withdrawal agreement is fully implemented. And, more importantly holds so that things can move to the next step. Lost in all the “We have a peace deal!” happy talk is that this is just phase I of a larger process. And, as I’ve said there are those on both sides who will go to extraordinary lengths including assassinations and other violence to blow the whole thing up. For now it’s an announced deal and nothing more. Ukraine is still fighting for its survival in no small part because Trump has wanted Putin/Russia to win. During his hiatus from the White House he built opposition in the GOP to supporting Ukraine and with his win n 2024 all bets were off for a resolution to THAT war. Because of Trump.
So I for one am not going to sit idly by and allow Trumpty and GOPers to claim Trump was ROBBED of a ‘deserved’ honor/prize. That’s what’s coming and I’m calling bullshit on it right here and now. IF by next September Gaza is well on the road to rebuilding AND the next phase of working out a broader peace deal between Jewish and Palestinian Israelis, AND a framework for the Palestinian State Israel agreed to help form when it was first granted recognition by the U.N. almost six decades ago only then will I say yes, Trump (assuming he actually puts in effort and publicly commits himself and the United States) deserves actual consideration for Nobel Peace Prize.
I’m not holding my breath. I am however breathing a sigh of relief that once again Trump is a loser. He LOST, and on something he’s made a BFD about saying he should ‘win.’ He deserved to lose. Hell, he’s shooting up boats on the open ocean he suspects of being drug runners and provoking a war on that score. He’s literally trying to provoke a second civil war on the streets of U.S. cities. Peacemaker my ass!
So raise a glass tonight both in honor of a worthy recipient of this year/s Nobel Peace Prize, a toast to the hope it will help lead to the ouster of Venezuela’s dictator and her leading a peaceful transition to a democratic government and freedom in her country, and a THANK YOU to the members of the Nobel Peace Prize committee.

Zoomers, we are always in need of donations. We work hard to get you analysis that you will not find in the mainstream media, but all media have been hit hard since the big companies have gobbled up and monopolized commentary. Anything you can spare will be immensely appreciated. And thank you to all who have donated generously already. Ursula

I watched the PBS Newshour last night and they a man on who summed it up quite well. He said this is happening now because Trump called Netanyahu and leaned on him to agree. He said Trump was involved before he was re-elected, but afterwards lost interest. The interesting thing is the deadline for the acceptance of this agreement was today, to coincide with the Nobel announcement. Trump is just as self-centered and transactional as always. Don’t get me wrong, I am very glad this is happening, I only hope he sees it through.
On the surface, Trump will be more eligible in ’26 than 25 as the awards generally refer to the previous year. That said, all that is fairly settled, if not entirely, is Phase 1. The real test of the agreement is getting all 20 points tied down in the face of all those invested in maintenance of their present status/roles.
Clinton and the US invested a lot to bring about the N Ireland 1998 Agreement and a referendum in each of both parts of Ireland with very sound majorities. However, it took many fits and starts to bed in and the factional tensions remain, with government basically at a stalemate as a result of the Agreement imperfections not being addressed, despite provisions in the original agreement for review. It remains a zero sum game where either side cannot appear to gain without the other appearing to lose. Nothing changes and nothing moves. Pretty simple as compared with Israel/Palestine. And whither Trump’s focus over the time required
No worries…he is ready with a sharpie.
There exists a long-standing and often unvoiced ethos at the Nobel organisation that the Peace (or any other) Prize never goes to anyone who comes looking or asking for it. Never. The very act of suggesting, let alone demanding, to be considered immediately ends that person’s eligibility. The Peace Prize goes to people who do meaningful work on behalf of others or a worthy cause, without expectation or even consideration of a reward. Trump’s too stupid and narcissistic to even comprehend such an altruistic philosophy, let alone adhere to it. He never had a snowball’s chance in hell of getting the Prize and should have known it. Now, the more outrage he screams will simply doom any possible candidacy in the future, no matter what he might accomplish.
One of the reasons the one receiving this award is so often surprising is that it’s awarded to someone out there doing the work that the Nobel Peace Prize represents, with no thoughts of accolades for it. That is definitely not Cheeto. He has no problem trying to turn this award into some campaign to be won while telling the world how much he deserves it. That’s why he will never win it; he’s extremely self-centered, and his every action is transactional.
