And oh, is it wonderful! He keeps trying things and failing at them. He wants more, more, more. But he’s not gaining any ground. He’s losing ground with the now-famous excuses, thinking that he can use them to win. Instead, he’s losing. Oh, yes, he’s losing.
US President Donald Trump is on a losing streak this week. Just look at the latest judicial decisions challenging his policies, from mass deportations to tariffs to his troop deployments to US cities. The courts are proving to be a significant check on Trump’s thirst for absolute power. These cases illustrate the point.
BOOM. So much for these attempts. It should be interesting to see what he tries next. He’s certainly running out of options, no matter what his sycophants say. I hope the courts keep throwing the smackdown, no matter what he tries.
Over Labor Day weekend, Immigration and Customs Enforcement attempted to begin deporting up to 700 unaccompanied Guatemalan children. In the dead of night, the first children were loaded onto planes in south Texas. At 1:00 am on Sunday morning, Olivares and his colleagues filed an emergency complaint with the federal court in Washington, DC. Judge Sparkle Sooknanam was woken after 2:00 am, and by 4:00 am she issued a temporary restraining order blocking the deportations until the children had the immigration hearings to which they have a legal right. Meanwhile in Texas, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, considered the nation’s most conservative, ruled that Trump’s use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport people was illegal.
That’s two, but we’re just getting started. There is more to come, and they are good ones, too. All of Trump’s efforts are coming to naught. It must be making him more nuts than he already is. There was no research into these past “Oh, I can use this” and nothing in depth to tell him what possibilities there were for pushback. He assumed people wouldn’t fight them. Hoo, boy, was he wrong.
The Appeals Court in Washington DC ruled that Trump’s so-called “Liberation Day” tariffs were illegal and unconstitutional, noting that only Congress has the power to impose tariffs. Trump says, “We’re going in,” threatening to invade Chicago using, among other forces, the Texas National Guard. But in California, a federal judge, invoking the 1878 Posse Comitatus Act that bars the use of military in domestic law enforcement, ruled in favor of Gov. Gavin Newsom, finding Trump’s deployment of the California National Guard to the streets of Los Angeles, along with several hundred US Marines, was illegal.
And again I say BOOM. He’s definitely getting the smackdown. With all of this experience, he ought to go to the UFC and fight. I’m sure he would do well at the theatrical part of the program. But seriously, I am so happy that someone can tell him NO. I’m sure there will be appeals (yes, yes, you can stop rolling your eyes. We know it’s true.) Please let the courts give him the smackdown again. I figure he’ll lose again and will be more embarrassed when *that* happens. But in the meantime, let’s enjoy our wins and his losses.
Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

US Supreme Court will overturn “our wins”
I’m not giving up til the SC gives the official verdicts. Not giving up.
I just finished reading a new book by Leah Litman, titled “Lawless” in which she explains how the Supreme Court makes its rulings. There’s no law involved, just notions and vibes. It’s a short book, well worth the time to read.
Thank you for the information! I definitely have to go look it up!!!
Oh Dear, Lorene 737. ‘Tis well recognized, a la Danny Kaye, that the King (Donald), who operates on whims and spite, has no clothes but now the Emperor (the august SC) operates on notions and vibes. if the US were the Titanic, there is no need for an iceberg
