Oh, this is good. More news on the runaway tactics of Republicans and their town halls. We actually have 2 to talk about, but I’ll give you the link to the second one. Apparently, they haven’t learned yet that their voters are pissed. They keep doing town halls and their constituents are *pissed*. They’re very, VERY unhappy with some things and are not shy about asking them. Guys. Figure it out, okay? From AlterNet:

News19 reporter Peyton Newman said voters watched U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Ala.) duck behind closed doors and head to his car rather than meet with voters at an advertised “Quarterly Meet-up with Dale Strong” on Thursday. “I was told media coverage was not allowed,” Newman reported. “I spoke with the host of the event, Republican Women [of Madison], who confirmed this event was advertised as public, but they decided to make it private just ten minutes before it began.”

What the holy hell! (Yes, that’s a contradiction in terms.) He ran away. He literally RAN AWAY. Wimp! He shouldn’t have advertised the meeting as public. And to change it to private 10 MINUTES before the event. Oooo, I’ll bet there are a lot of even angrier voters! You can’t promise things you don’t want. Did he not pay any attention to what happened at other town halls? They were brutal. And Democrats didn’t fare much better.

All have irate voters (across the country) who are angry, and they’re going to show it. They’re frustrated because Congresspeople aren’t doing their jobs! The Big Ugly Bill brought everything to a boil. It screws over the people of America for tax cuts for the fabulously rich jerks that Trump has to placate. Then there’s Medicaid being cut. There are lies to farmers, who are already struggling because of a lack of workers due to the insane anti-immigrant policies that are being enacted in broad daylight, so they’re not coming to work. I could go on and on and talk about this because it’s only part of the picture.

Republican Women of Madison President Sheila Banister told News 19 the group decided to make the event private due to protests at prior speaking engagements. “We were … advised about the number of people and the behavior of this group at recent events across the state and country,” said Banister in a statement. “… Based on the information we received and seeing the chatter on social media, we decided to close the event to local Republican membership and their guests.”

Protests? Gee, ya think? Your Congressperson is not doing his JOB and, in addition, voted *for* the Big Ugly Bill. They (we) have had enough. It only worked for the gazillionaires. Everyone below that is screwed. Any way you look at it, the rest of us are fleeced. The gazillionaires can enjoy their plunder while the rest of us are counting every damn penny. Here is the link to the second one:

“While we recognize that many people from these groups were frustrated by our decision, we felt it was in the best interest of our organization to ensure the intent of the meeting was met and that our members felt safe while attending,” Banister added. Republican members of Congress have faced backlash over their decision to pass President Donald Trump’s deeply unpopular Big Beautiful budget with its Medicaid cuts and regressive tax policies. Peyton reports Strong “was swiftly escorted into a car when the event ended” and refused to face attendees who had “waited outside the Movement Church for hours.”

There you have it. He ran away. He literally ran away. Couldn’t face the music. Well, sir, if you had done what needed to be done, they wouldn’t be angry. Now you are paying for it. First, a closed “town hall” and then he ran away. Good lord, he was a coward. We will be hearing more about these town halls. They *will* hear from us, one way or another. Good luck to us.

Friends, I know everybody begs you for money. I promise you that of all of the outlets bugging you for spare change, we are the smallest and the hardest working. We’re a bunch of old, disabled people, except one writer in his mid-50s. But the rest of us are in our sixties and seventies, and this is a labor of love. All we’re asking for is the ability to continue our quest to tell the truth about Trump and ensure democracy survives. If you can help, please do. Thanks. Ursula

Um, no. No, it’s not. For starters, “holy” in this sense is used in its slang sense as an intensifier in an interjection. If you describe the rotten kids next door as “holy terrors” or you’re surprised by something and say “Holy cow,” the meaning is certainly different than the more typical religious usage. Even then, people who worship Satan would consider your “contradiction in terms” comment as being, well, blasphemous.

    • Gee, thanks for the lesson Joseph! It was intended as a joke. This is not college English. It’s an opinion column. But I’ll keep that in mind if I ever try to be funny again.
