This isn’t a new or original thought but it needs to be raised over and over so people keep pressure on the GOP to undercut what Trump clearly wants to do. Trump wants Martial Law and he needs a crisis to justify ‘going for broke.’Â If he has to manufacture the damned crisis himself Trump doesn’t care how many people, civilian or military are injured or killed. In fact the way he sees it the more troops become casualties the ‘stronger’ the ‘case’ he can make to declare Martial Law!
Make no mistake, Trump tried to get folks in LA to attack the National Guard and Marines (active duty I should add) to provide him an excuse. It didn’t work. Other cities, in particular in Blue states with Democratic mayors are on Trump’s list. California was a failure for him even if he federalized that state’s National Guard. Not wanting to go through the hassle of a public fight with another blue state Gov. Trump took advantage of the fact the DC Guard is already under HIS control as DC is not a state. The number of Guard deployed has increased, helped by Red State Governors sending in some of their own Guard to “help.” Worse, instead of ‘support’ Trump has started having Guard troops carry weapons.
Trump WANTS there to be a shootout on DC streets. He’s trying to provoke it Any GOPer who claims otherwise is either willfully delusional or an outright effing liar. Crime in DC is nowhere near the levels Trump claimed. And for damned sure not in the tonier parts of the city where the Guard is deployed. I suspect the main form of crime in those places is what it was when I lived across the river in northern Virginia – pickpocketing and auto theft. With the latter not so much carjacking as just very skilled people breaking into and driving off in the newly stolen cars to the nearest chop shop.
My point is that while yes, there is violent crime in DC and every other city, AND small town in America Trump failed to get some examples right away in DC. He might have even tried to create one. Remember the case of the ‘attempted carjacking’ of his DOGE minion ‘Big Balls?’ Funny how that seems to have faded from the news. It’s been long enough court documents would tell us a great deal including the alleged severity of the attack. Oh well, as I said Trump is determined so he’s got ARMED Guard units roaming around and with some of them from other states not exactly trained on how to evaluate a late evening dispute outside a bar or restaurant.
The thing is, DC business including and especially bars and restaurants in the nice parts of town are struggling because the customers aren’t coming. Because of Trump’s ‘crackdown’ and all those troops. Most people who would go to such places know damn well what I’ve said – Trump wants confrontations that escalate into shootouts, and they don’t want to be anywhere near when the bullets start flying! Knowing he’s growing less likely by the day to get what he wants in DC he’s looking to take his ‘Lets make another Kent State’ act to other cities.
As you can see in this article from ABC News Chicago seems next on Trump’s list. Illinois Governor Pritzker has been publicly telling Trump to stay out of Illinois’ and Chicago’s business. Pritzker sees what Trump has done on both coasts and knows Trump will want to plant his flag in the heartland. Trump’s has had it in for Chicago all along going back to his first term and his trashing of the city and it’s leadership continues. Given it’s where Obama claimed as home it’s no surprise. Trump thinks Chicago and the state of Illinois should be begging for his (cough cough) help. That’s not happening. As Trump tried to play coy about whether he’d wait for Pritzker to come a begging we got this:

“Earlier today, in the Oval Office, Donald Trump looked at the assembled cameras and asked for me personally to say, ‘Mr. President, can you do us the honor of protecting our city?’ Instead, I say, ‘Mr. President, do not come to Chicago,'” Pritzker said at a news conference in Chicago on Monday afternoon.
“What President Trump is doing is unprecedented and unwarranted. It is illegal. It is unconstitutional. It is un-American,” the governor added.
According to the linked article as in the case of Trump’s recent ‘rescues’ crime of the type he claims is rampant is actually down and by more than a little bit. Trump of course won’t except actual facts and if he doesn’t like truthful statistics he just makes up his own. So, he rails against Chicago and calls it a “disaster” and other stuff. Trumpty puts on a show of being baffled about Chicago not wanting him to take care of things. However as I said it’s not a question of if he federalizes the Illinois Nat. Guard and deploys them in Chicago but when:
“I made the statement that next should be Chicago, because, as you all know, Chicago is a killing field right now, and they don’t acknowledge it. And they say, ‘We don’t need him. Freedom. Freedom. He’s a dictator. He’s a dictator.’ A lot of people are saying ‘maybe we like a dictator.’ I don’t like a dictator. I’m not a dictator. I’m a man with great common sense and a smart person,” the president said
So get ready Chicago. With apologies to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s anthem about Kent State, “Trump Guardsmen and MAGA coming; Their job’s to start Civil War…” Trump wants dead people, some of them being National Guard troops in the streets of some American city. We need to shout that from the rooftops and Democrats on Capitol Hill need to be pointing it out EVERY DAY. I don’t think people get the urgency of this. If legitimate protesters continue to avoid taking the bait Trump’s dangling he’ll dispatch Stephen Miller to have a chat with Erik Prince who has an entire mercenary army filled with former Spec Ops people that know how to foment trouble.
Trump wants considerably more than ‘Four Dead In Ohio’ – he wants enough to invoke Martial Law. Don’t be surprised if at the same time he sends troops into Chicago he also does so in Baltimore. But for the moment Chicago is the new target. Given the crime levels across the eastern border in Indiana, a RED state it’s time to make a BFD about why Trump only wants to deploy a federalized Guard in Blue state’s cities. Well, I don’t hold much hope for the ‘Talent’ at mainstream news outlets doing their job on this. It’s up to us to pressure Democratic leaders to highlight the issue.
To those who say, not without some justification that reporters can and do avoid Democrats I say so what? Unlike GOPer politicians many journalists actually experience SHAME. Making videos outside the news outlet’s buildings saying they refused to talk to our politicians about these things will have an effect. But make no mistake, if Trump can’t provoke a groups of Democratic protesters to violently attack his goon squads then he’ll turn to some pretty dark groups/people to infiltrate protests and start the killing. THAT is why we have to shine the light on Trump’s intention and keep it on.
