If you thought MAGA was done with Trump think again. Sure, they’re up in arms over Epstein and even questioning him at least on that. However keep a couple of things in mind. The anger isn’t because they think Trump is guilty of crimes against children but tolerant and protective of those who have. The other is that MAGAs at least still believe his b.s. about the “good” he’s doing. They LOVE the awful people he’s appointed and want more. So Senate Majority Leader John Thune putting on the brakes has enraged them.
At issue is the issue of Trump using and of course abusing the power to make recess appointments for vacancies that require Senate confirmation. As Raw Story tells us MAGA is calling for Thune’s head because he’s using Senate rules to block Trump from making recess appointments during the August break:
According to CSPAN’s Craig Caplan, “Senate just agreed by unanimous consent at the request of Majority Leader Thune to hold pro forma sessions every 3 days following today’s session and not return for votes until Tuesday, Sept. 2nd. This agreement will block President Trump from making recess appointments.”
To, as Raw Story put it, add insult to injury seated behind Thune as he made his announcement were Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski. Ok, so they are more talk than action and have almost always caved when it came time to vote they’ve said enough at times to give Trump heartburn. One has to think the pair of them weren’t sitting right there in the shot by accident. MAGA takes it like a combination “double bird” and “mooning” and they are calling for Thune’s head.
For the time being however as the linked article explains by having a Senator show up every few days the Senate technically remains in session even though there’s no quorum that will allow it to conduct business. (Note to Democrats – keep tabs on Senate GOPers to make sure they don’t try to sneak back to town to pull some stunt) The result is no recess, no recess appointments. If you think MAGA is going nuts tonight image how batshit insane Trump is!
For now MAGAs are lighting up twitter/x hurling accusations of RINO and worse. Things could get pretty ugly. In the end I’m not sure how much difference it will make. As I noted Collins and Murkowski might have ‘made a statement’ sitting there to support Thune but what matters is how they vote come September. Like my own Senator Tillis for all the talk when push comes to shove they don’t fight Trump putting their hand on the YES button.
Of course a month is a lifetime in politics. Trump could wind up considerably weakened during August. On the other hand he just might weather the Epstein storm, battered and bruised but not truly seriously wounded. Let’s face it – we’ve thought before THIS time he’s caught only to have him slither out of danger. I sometimes think we won’t be free of Trump until mother nature finally does her job and he breathes his last breath. And his corpse has a stake driven through his heart, his head is cut off and his mouth filled with garlic (like a vampire) and multiple shotgun blasts blow his brains to bits (like a zombie), the entire structure it happens in is burned to ashes and said ashes are shot off into deep space on the biggest and most powerful rocket available.
For now we can anticipate a helluva meltdown from Trumpy. It should be epic. And in a sick way entertaining.
