Immigration Will Be Trump’s “Legacy” Issue. And The Legacy May Be Electoral Slaughter In 2026 And 2028

This is what happens when you hitch your wagon to a team of horses being driven by a sociopathic ideologue with Messianic delusions. The old saying is that memories are short in politics, but not this short, especially when you hammer the message home with The Big Lie.

There has never been a doubt that Traitor Tot’s overriding campaign and administration issue is immigration. That became clear on the day he farted his way down that schlock gold gilt escalator in Trump Tower in 2015, and screeched that When Mexico sends us their people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending murderers, they’re sending rapists, they’re sending drug pushers, and some, I presume are good people.

Politically it was a practical masterstroke. By talking about immigrants, any immigrants in openly racist, derogatory, and inflammatory terms, he activated the racist underbelly of the GOP, which had long foregone politics as any kind of a useful solution. He motivated them, they showed up in droves to the election booths, and he was in. And then the trouble started.

Trump’s first term was a debacle for his immigration policy. First, he tried and failed to pass a budget with funding for his Big Beautiful Wall. Then he tried shutting down the government in order to obtain funding for the wall, and ended up doing his first TACO, looking like a schmuck as he did so. Then his barbaric child separation policy sparked domestic protests and international scorn of human rights abuses not seen since Genghis Khan. It also led to a midterm debacle in the House.

But immigration was Trump’s signature issue, it’s what inspired and fired up the goose steppers and bed sheet banditos, so he kept with it. Every ill of the of the Biden presidency was due to illegal immigration, and phantom immigrant caravans were threatening every border. To my mind, this constant pressure was responsible for Biden turning away from some of the more progressive solutions his party wanted. It was too much of a hot spot.

But now, in TrumpaPalooza II, all of the guardrails are gone, there are no more adults in the room. And Trump is finally unleashing his racist and degrading illegal immigrant relocation program into action. And it’s going over like a lead zeppelin.

This is what happens when sick political ideology meets the real world. Trump’s base is sick, twisted, and sadistic. They’d buy tickets to sit in bleachers along the border and watch undocumented immigrants launched back over the Rio Grande with huge catapults. But the simple fact of the matter is that while the majority of Americans may be unhappy with unchecked illegal immigration, they are tolerant and respectful of the human rights of people coming across the border just to pick crops and send money home to support their families.

This is a different country than the one that Trump and the GOP have been running on a segregationist immigration policy for decades now. It is younger, browner, and more tolerant. There are generations of voters who went to desegrated schools, with black, brown, and even kids with slanted eyes. And instead of catching cooties, they made friends. The racist Trump/GOP anti-immigration base is shrinking.

A Gallup poll released last week shows that the topic of immigration has reached its highest popularity rating in the poll’s history. People not motivated by blind hatred have come to realize that people like Pedro and Consuela, Jose and Maris clean their hotel rooms, watch their children, mow their lawns, cut their chicken breasts and pork chops, and pick their produce, all while keeping the prices down. The majority of Americans now finally at least understand the economics of the issue.

Trump has screwed himself to the wall. When he unleashed his jackbooted ICE SS thugs on the immigrant population, especially in California, he swore that they were micro targeted, that they were only going after the worst of the worst. And yet the administration’s own figures show that the vast majority of the detainees rounded up have no criminal record in the US, they don’t even have a criminal arrest in the US. and most of them have no prior convictions of criminal arrests in their home country. Add into it the fact that there is daily video evidence of ICE abuse during their round ups, and that American citizens are being shackled and carted off, and you have a world class political SNAFU on your hands.

Actually, there’s a solution so simple that it almost boggles the mind, but nobody wants to use it. There is a decades old immigration policy already in place, pardon me, but I can’t recall the letters and numbers, but it’s called a temporary work visa. My Canadian son-in-law used one sponsored by his American company until he married my youngest daughter and was granted permanent residence status. And Traitor Tot himself has shamelessly abused this program to provide cheap European help for his resorts and hotels, often overstaying the visa limits.

Why not simply extend this process to migrant workers from the south. Come up with a simple application and vetting process, filled out in their own country, vet them based on a US sponsor, and let them in? They can work to the limit of the visa, and then either go home until the next season and repeat the process, or their US sponsor could request an extension.

Look, these people don’t want to be here illegally, they don’t want to be undocumented, and they don’t want to spend all their time living in the shadows. All they want to do is to feed and care for their families. They’re already here, and everybody already knows they’re here, and they’re doing the jobs no American wants to do, no matter how much you pay them. Why not just check them out, give them a piece of paper, and let them live in the open? According to Traitor Tot because it’s too much fun to kick the sh*t out of them, turn them into a modern day Christians-vs-lions, and then kick their asses back over the border to start the same damn process all over again. This is too f*cked up for words.
