I’ll try to make this short. I’ll also say upfront this is just my own opinion. Others may or may not agree and are free to comment one way or the other. So here goes: The MAGA fury that is being directed at the Trump administration, and some even at Trump himself isn’t really over widespread concern from rank and file MAGAs about pedophilia. Nope, it’s ALL about “getting” Bill Clinton. And Hillary too for that matter.
I’m not saying the bulk of MAGAs are dismissive of the issue of sexual abuse or assault, at least of minors. Cleary they are tolerant of it when victims are adults and the perpetrators are conservatives (Trump being the Poster Child on this) but except for pedophiles themselves such abuse of children is, as is should be considered awful. However it’s also something people would rather not have to think about. That’s a tragic fact, and how so much of it goes on. The signs are there but people don’t want to ‘go there’ when they see certain things people they know do. Or say.
Yet if you recall the pure hatred of Bill Clinton and Hillary too it’s no wonder his well known roving eye led to explosive charges of the sex trafficking of children out of the basement of a pizza joint – that didn’t have a basement as it turned out! Remember the infamous “PizzaGate” mess? However that tree was planted in the minds of conservatives and planted deep. The roots spread like Kudzu and will never be eradicated.
To first the craziest of the batshit insane RWNJ crazies Bill Clinton was way more than someone who cheated on his wife. He was a sexual predator who preyed on children! With Hillary’s help! That sentiment spread to regular RWNJ types. And Bill Clinton knew Jeffrey Epstein. So did lots of other powerful and/or rich people but it’s my contention from the beginning this is all about Bill and Hillary Clinton. It’s not spoken of openly but I truly believe in the minds of MAGAs ‘Bill and Hillary Clinton were Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell’ BEORE they were Epstein and Maxwell!
THAT I believe accounts for the fury we are seeing from MAGA. Sure, they want the ‘Client List’ but what they really want are files that prove Epstein and Maxwell learned how to do what they did from the Clintons! Think about that for a minute. Again, if you do so you might think I’m full of crap and again I say feel free to tell me that. MAGAs know there was a time when the Clintons and Trumps were on decent terms but write it off to New York rich people showing up at the same places type of thing. They have a remarkable ability to rationalize when it comes to their orange turd-god emperor and simply can’t fathom the notion that any mention of their hero in the Epstein files is less than totally benign.
Trump of course knows better. Long before he was a politician he was a regular at Epstein’s NYC Brownstone. Which, like his other properties was wired with cameras that recorded a lot of things a LOT of powerful people fear someday coming out. I’ll say again I think the only reason Maxwell is on this side of the grass is that after Epstein died in custody she took steps to ensure material SHE had would come out if anything happened to her! And her lawyers quietly let DOJ know it. I think she bet on Trump getting back in the WH and if not pardoning her commuting her sentence. Well, that’s not going to happen. Until perhaps Trump’s last day in Office. That’s another matter for another time.
My point is that Trump campaigned on releasing ALL the Epstein stuff. He’s gotten away with being brazen for so long I’m sure he figured any video of him could “accidentally” be lost or wiped out by his new AG and he’d be able to explain away anything else. However once in office as the full scope of what was there was learned, all the stuff Barr kept bottled up became known it was ‘Uh Oh’ time. Pam Bondi is no Bill Barr and Trump knows it. HER ability to cover things up with the skill Barr did simply isn’t up to the task and Trump knows it. He KNOWS it.
It finally dawned on him he’d placed himself between the proverbial rock and hard place and his only options for getting out were going to hurt. He chose COVER UP and likely assumed MAGA would explode and after a few days move on. They’d always swallowed whatever bullshit he fed them in the past so I can see why he tried going that route. The thing is, it’s not working.
It’s not just rank and file MAGAs that are furious. It’s conservative influencers too! From articles to podcasts and even speakers at that conference conservatives just had the message is to fire Bondi for NOT releasing the files. They simply don’t buy the ‘turns out there was no client list and Epstein really did commit suicide’ line coming from the WH and DOJ. Trumpty himself has literally ORDERED his MAGAs to drop the matter and for the first time a huge portion of them are refusing to fall in line.
Which brings me back to why I wrote this. MAGA nation doesn’t really believe there’s any actual ‘dirt’ on Trump in all the material that’s being covered up. However they DO believe right down to their DNA that Bill (and Hillary) Clinton will FINALLY be taken down by it. It’s been their holy grail for decades. Take down the Clintons. Lock them up in the worst prison in the U.S. and throw away the key. THIS, the release of the Epstein files would at long last fulfill their dream. And Trump is preventing it from happening!
What’s a self-righteous MAGA to do? Since everyone but pedophiles hate pedophiles and in THEIR minds the Clintons were/are pedophiles they knew even Democrats would join with them. And the Epstein files were the means to the end they have for so long dreamt of. So again I say the pedophilia angle is only a means to an end for MAGA. It’s not that most of them justifiably think it’s wrong, but rather THE surefire way to evoke universal condemnation of the Clintons. And put them in prison. Now, the very person they COUNTED on to FINALLY get it done is standing in the way of the thing they most fervently want!
So what will happen. Trump isn’t just a pig but a greased one and he’s slipped out of trouble his whole life even when it looked like he was finally caught. I fear he might escape on this too. However he might find himself seeing a quite personal version of what SCOTUS conservatives and anti-abortion fanatics fomented with the Dobbs decision.
There was a rock-solid belief that there would be some initial fury, and that it might last for weeks. But by the end of the summer and certainly by election time the anger would melt away to manageable proportions. If you’ve read this then you know it didn’t happen that way. And it’s STILL an issue that’s causing trouble for conservatives at the ballot box. Cross your fingers and hope Trump has made the same mistake. In this case that his own freaking MAGAs won’t ‘just get over it.’
They will never, ever vote for a Democrat but what a lot of them might do is not bother to vote. Because they truly believed their Trumpty would do what he said and GET THE CLINTONS in the process. They feel betrayed now. I’ve seen clips of conservative pundits saying even ten percent of MAGAs giving up on Trump (and the GOP) would be devastating to them. They’re right. So what can WE do? Keep brining it up ourselves on social media. For those who twitter that seems like a good place to poke MAGA with their Trumpty’s “betrayal.” Just a thought.
