We live in a day and age where Mike Pence has become the voice of reason. Yes, Mike Pence, Rand Paul, others whom you would never suspect, are actually making a lot of sense. But what do you expect when they’re pointing out the obivous idiocy of what Donald Trump is already doing and plans to do next? The latest howl of outrage comes this afternoon as the 35% tariff on goods from our good neighbor to the north is announced. This is so profoundly idiotic.
The popular political account on X JoJoFromJerz lamented, “We. Pay. The. F—ing. Tariffs.”
The MeidasTouch account bemoaned, “Not this idiocy again. Only 43 pounds of fentanyl—yes, just 43—were intercepted at the U.S.-Canada border in 2024.”
Perrin Beatty, former President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, noted on X that Trump’s letter repeated the “bogus” claim that Canada has failed to stop drugs from “pouring into our Country” claim, despite U.S. stats and our $1.3 billion commitment.
Spencer Hakimian, founder of Tolou Capital Management, chided, “Orange boy couldn’t handle the TACO nickname. So the entire world has to burn again.”
Patrick Strother, founder of Strother Communications Group, added, “If Trump was smart he wouldn’t do this. That is why he is doing it.”
And from the wilderness speaks Mike Pence.
Repeat after me… Tariffs are paid at the front end of the business cycle. That cost doesn't disappear. It is either paid by the consumer or eaten by the company via lower profits. Paid by the consumer = inflation. Eaten by the company = low profit and stocks/401K's get killed.

That is the long and the short of it. But Trump doesn’t care because he is immune. It’s the yous and mes that pay for his folly. I will never understand why so many Americans voted against their own self interest and elected this man. It truly astounds me. Well, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
I mean, if the Chinese Communists and the Chinese Nationalists could put aside THEIR differences to fight the Japanese during WW2, we can deal with Pence’s thoughts, especially when they’re damning of Drumpf.
Also, as Churchill is reported to have said regarding accepting Soviet help during WW2, “If Hitler invaded Hell, I would make at least a favourable reference to the Devil in the House of Commons.”

Because when you’ve lost Mike Pence, you’ve lost . . . a good hunk of Conservatives . . .
We care because he is speaking the truth and will hopefully sway others to see it that way.
We’d better hope a large number of disaffected Republicans care what Mike Pence thinks. Personally, I never thought Pence was an idiot. Wrong, terribly wrong, yes, but not an idiot. Now Rand Paul I did think was an idiot – I still think his Dad is – so this from him is refreshing.
